Two things here peeps. First i am looking for a good mechanic to finish my t140 silver jubilee it needs valve timing and electrics tidying. The second someone to bend a peice of stainless tubing around 13 to 15 mm. As close to Burnham / Slough / Maidenhead area as possible. Regards Joe.
Sorry joe can’t help really, the only place I know of is here There is another place on the a3 as you come out of Guildford but I don’t really know much about them
Any competent plumber should be able and equipped to bend your pipe provided it is not too convoluted.
Well peeps I've dropped a line to the rockerbox people. As for my tubing not many plumbers bend pipe anymore they use ready cut pieces and angles. All I want is to make a grab rail. And SmilinJack I'm sure they could do the valves but I think I will give it a miss for now. Regards Joe.
Crispey. Yes and he was tried to help with sound advice. But goes to show word of mouth still works well. Regards Joe.
As for the bending bit, subject to radius, you need a strong vice, a disused brake disc from any service centre for free, a good quality pair of vice grips and possibly a hollow tube as an extension bar to slide over your tube. Put the disc in the vice as hard as you can, put the vice grips at either quarter to or ten to on the edge of the disc making sure you leave enough space within the jaw gap to slide your tube in then slide your tube in and bend it round the diameter of the disc, tapping ever so gently whilst keeping the bent tube under pressure. The extension tube is just for extra leverage if needed. I’ve just been modifying a customers Harley-Davidson and I needed to use the same methods these are the radius’s you can achieve
Very useful advice. Does it help to fill the tube with sand like a plumber would use a spring inside the copper tube to prevent it crushing in on itself??? Could help on thin walled tubing I suppose??
I'm not a lover of brown seats on bikes, but each to his own and why do people get work done on their bikes in the summer!
Tigcraft. That's quite neat. And a pretty good idea. But I think I might still get a plumber or engineer to do it for me. I am in no rush for it so I will probably just stumble across someone in the near future who will have the skill to do it properly for me. It's just to make a grab rail to fit my 120 as I fitted bag rails and had to remove the grab rail to steal their position but thanks for the thought. Regards Joe.
I bet there's not a plumber or pipe fitter alive that hasn't got a pipe I bet there's not a plumber or pipe fitter alive that hasn't got a pipe bender slung in the back of the van
Bob1 That was my thoughts but they have to have the right fittings. I went to DES mechanical but they didn't have the right pieces nor did Woodley engineering. But I will like I say just blunder on someone one day that can do it for me. Regards Joe.
