I know that there has been a thread just recently about prescription eyewear and riding bikes with them or contact lenses But I am considering getting lazer eye treatment I hate wearing glasses Has anyone had this procedure? Or do you know anyone who’s had it done...if so what results can I expect Interested in other people’s views...good or bad
I'm with you on this one ! I hate the glasses too. I know two people that works at my company who has gone for the procedure and both has had very good results and no longer have to wear their glasses thats how much their sight has improved. Though its not cheap over here and not all medical aids pay for the procedure.
My lad's had it done. Very pleased with the results, now has 20/20 vision. He had it done because he wants to join the Navy.
Thanks for the replies Been thinking about this for a while...like I said I hate having to wear glasses I can drive and ride my bike but struggle to see the dashboard and speedo etc I have an appointment for a consultation/tests on 27th of January But I won’t go for it until I’ve been to a few places and see what they all say Then shop around for the best price Would be nice not having to wear glasses at work
Have heard stories about people having to go back to wearing glasses after varying number of years But a mate of mine had his done aged 48yrs....he’s now 62yrs old and says it was one of the best decisions he’s made I reckon if I get 10-15yrs before having to wear glasses again it’ll be money well spent Will be retired by then....and won’t have to wear glasses at work because I won’t be at FECKIN WORK
Get your eyes checked out fully by a specialist first as its a big decision ...... There are 2 types of glaucoma and neither is compatible with laser surgery as they both alter the lens shape due to the internal pressure in the eye, and not always easily diagnosed early on. I've had surgery on both eyes to correct the issue but laser is still a no go ................
my mate had it done about 10 years ago (he's 50 now) and said it was expensive but worth every penny, i don't think it works if you are losing your sight due to age,so once my mate gets a bit older and starts losing his sight like everyone else, he will need to wear glasses again for reading etc
Do you reckon it will make watching Sunderland play less painful if you have laser surgery mate??? If so definitely worth the money !!
Yo Dill, From personal experience I would recommend having the lazer surgery provided you don't go down the cheap route. I had mine done in 2012 at 62 years of age as I was fed up of having so many pairs of glasses to deal with (and buy!), its a revelation once your eyes have settled down I would have been at least a second a lap quicker round Aintree if I'd had the vision I have now. Snags! you will definitely need reading glasses (they will explain all this to you at the consultation) you will have to sleep with plastic eye shields taped on for 2 weeks, you will have to attend the clinic the day after treatment, one week later and then 2 weeks later. My treatment took approx. 1 minute 11 seconds to complete I did not have any blurred vision at all and when I walked out of the clinic (wearing dark glasses, really bright sunny day) it was like someone had turned on floodlights my vision was so clear. At the end of the day its your decision and not to be taken lightly, I would definitely recommend it if your eyes are suitable for the surgery (they will tell you at the consultation). Good luck with the consultation. Cheers, Pete.
Seriously, don’t ‘situate the appreciation’. If you tour the laser treatment providers you have pretty much pre-determined the outcome. It is a short hop from unethical to selling you what you want ‘if you are suitable’. An ophthalmologist with no axe to grind or particular treatment to sell will tell you what ALL your options are and the pros and cons of each. If you then choose laser then you have done so from a genuinely informed position rather than having simply bought into the marketing. It is unquestionably a safe and effective treatment. The question though, is what is right for YOU?
Thanks for that Pete I’ve heard quite a lot of good reports from people since I’ve been asking about and I intend having an eye test this weekend as well as at least two consultations before making a decision
Cheers mate and I’ll take on board what you’ve said If I have any doubts about this procedure....it won’t happen
Hi Mate, From around 40 yrs old I had to wear glasses for driving/riding and TV, I had laser surgery in early 2009, I was 47 when I had it done. I was suitable for Lasek treatment which was £395 per eye at the time, I had many friends/colleges at the time that went for consultations & I was the only one that was suitable for this option, most were quoted more than £2000 per eye. Prior to to procedure I had never needed glasses for reading & I was warned that I may need reading glasses afterwards. After the surgery I had 20/20 distance vision, but as warned required reading glasses, since then my distance vision remain good but closer vision has definitely got worse (as in need longer arms to read what I could read without problem in the early years following surgery). That said, most peoples sight gets worse in this way as they age. I hated wearing glasses under my crash helmet & did a lot of track days which made glasses steam up on cooler days & I didn't find contact lenses worked for me. For what its worth, I have not regretted having the surgery as for most of the time I don't have to wear glasses but would agree with an earlier comment that if you can afford it, and its an option, the replacement lens gives good all round vision. I thought far less about having the surgery than you, had I seen these arguments both for and against I might have had second thoughts!
Cheers for your input Billy I will ask about replacement lenses as it’s the wearing of glasses that gets on my nerves Having an eye test on Tuesday but I’m gonna see about seeing an ophthalmologist as suggested by Callumity I’m not the sort of person that can be talked into something that I don’t want/need and will not be signing or paying for anything on the day
