Hope I`m in the right place for this ? My recently purchased 790cc Bonneville has Laquer peeling off the timing / drive covers . Apparently a regular problem , but what is the best repair for this ? Thanks in anticipation .

I presume the covers are a painted black finish with a clear coat over the top? If so you need to rub down the covers until the clear coat has gone then shoot some clear lacquer back on them. Having said that, once you have removed the peeling clear coat you might just as well shoot some black paint on them prior to applying the lacquer to freshen them up a bit.

Just seen some pictures of your Bonneville, are the covers a natural finish then lacquered or painted silver & lacquered?
If painted silver then you can do as above. If they are natural finish then just sand off the peeling clear coat, clean down with panel wipe & shoot some clear lacquer over the top.

Alternatively, get them chromed or powder coated a colour of your choice?? If you fancy the chrome option you can keep an eye out on ebay as covers pop up on there quite regularly.

Many Thanks for that P19DJG , they are silver painted / laquered . I thought about getting them powder coated Black , but that would leave the crankcases still silver . Don`t know if anyone has done that colour scheme before .
