Just thought I would share a thought wiht all you peeps out there knowing how intelligent you all are. Have you ever tried to explain to a car or non biker what a bike is or indeed what exactly is it that drives a person to ride a bike cold rain injury if some dolt pulls out. But if the bike is not out there ready you get edgy and almost pine. Yet we curse at it and kick the tyres we abuse it and it never complains. Maybe I am just losing it or need to go out more but for the life of me I just live for the bike and the freedom it gives me. Ride safe. Joe
Completely agree with you Joe, I feel most alive when I'm riding my bike and if I don't get my fix often enough I turn grumpy !!! I don't think you can explain the joys of riding a bike, to a cage driver. They don't know freedom and how it feels.
I recall seeing a t-shirt back when I started riding that was as true then as it is today. Simple slogan that said "if I have to explain you wouldn't understand".
Sir Trev. Well I just can't explain it to people. But like the Big Lad said When I am on my bike working at it I know. Trying to explain it people look at me funnily and I can see in there faces they are thinking got to get away from this loon. And even if I am away for a few days I can't wait to get home. I have seen that T-shirt recently on eBay was going to get it but decided to leave for my birthday. Regards Joe
Sounds like a philosophical forum is needed HT My only advice is just enjoy biking for what it is, it doesn't matter a shite what anyone else thinks.
There's picture floating around out there that just about covers this. It's of a dog with it's head out of moving car window. The caption reads. Only bikers will understand why dogs do this.
Half Ton No you were right I should have checked before writing willy nilly. I will pay more attention in future. And thanks for not being angry even though I did deserve a strict slap on the wrist. Stay Safe. Joe.
Don't worry yourself Joe, at least your contributing to the general banter, doesn't really matter which forum you choose, nobody else seems to bother.
MickEng. Yes but Half Ton does have a genuine point and I am the one to blame. I should have been more considerate and looked at the forum which I will do in future. But I do ramble from time to time and I love to natter bike stuff. Stay Safe Joe.
No! Don't fall for that one Joe. Half ton has had to extend his garage with all the six packs he has 'encouraged' people to buy him.
My dear friends I will give up on this one. Lithium I wondered are they any better. My Son had one on a racing Daytona 675 and it lost its charge and would not charge up again. They are quite expensive so other than being lighter what else do they do. Crispey we will all meet up one time and I will buy you that beer. I don't drink myself but I will have a soft drink with you and Half Ton. Regards Joe
Losing all it's charge was what killed it. LiOn batteries are excellent but they must not be allowed to drop bellow a certain charge. If they reach the point of no return it's game over. Keep them topped up and they're fine. All that said I wouldn't bother with one on a bike. Buy a decent lead acid and an optimate charger for the winter and it will last years. The girlfriends bike, Yamaha XV250, is a 1999 bike and is still on the original battery. It's kept garaged and when not being ridden is connected to the optimate, it always starts.
