At the weekend ,bike suddenly cut out and would not start again. When kicked over ,is breathing heavily from the pipe from oil tank to chain Bike is 1962 t100ss Any ideas please Jenks
Best thing to do is check the old fuel, air , spark and work your way back from there. Is it still the original ignition points or has it been changed over?
Checked spark etc all ok haven't tried to start yet because of concerns over breather pressure, still on points distributor
Numpty statement coming, but have you checked for correct oil level. If so, check oil is returning to tank, best done with engine running of course, but jumping up and down on kickstart whilst looking in oil tank you should see oil returning. Yes stating the obvious I know but a good check for oil pump. I suppose you checked main fuse? My 1966 Tiger 90 blew the odd fuse. Otherwise do points spark with ignition on and screwdriver used to open and close, and check points gap. Condensers in points can cause trouble, change for a new one if necessary. Yer probably done this already of course. Have you 6V sat on battery using test meter, and a little more with bike running, oh and checked battery level? My apologies if I'm teaching granny...oh ammeters can cause trouble if you have one fitted. Short it out, and are both plugs sparking with ignition on (plug or coil problem). Borrow a compression tester it literally just screws into plug hole both cylinders should be same and you should get a reading of around err 100psi ish One less than the other could mean piston ring break. Let us know how yer go, might think of summat else.
Hi thanks for your input ,have checked most of the things you suggested except compression test, bike now running again if a bit rat telly Cheers
Do check the compression, really easy, both cylinders should be same, if not suspect piston rings/piston damage. If smoking one side more than other could be this also. Good luck. I have not mentioned tappets, may be worth checking those also of course, they rattle/tap if wrong, from memory it used to be 2 thou on inlet 4 thou on exhaust, but check yer manual. If it's a rumble suspect main bearing.
