Is It Worth It?

I've asked a similar question before but wanted to run this by anyone that's upgraded from a 2011/15 Speedy to a 2016/17, I've a very nice 2015 that's been on the dyno and is now making 138, my dilemma is that I might be in with a chance of a very nice, low mileage 2016 but would like to know whether or not it would really be worth the extra outlay in terms of what extra I'd be getting for my money, any input would be much appreciated.

 

Sounds like you have a great bike with good power !
Personally I prefer the real throttle connection of the old models but
really like the style, handling and dash on my RS - also good that you can hammer
it and it takes care of wheelies and crests etc. without nearly flipping it (I found out with TC disabled....) so I guess its down to your priorities. Before my RS I had a 2010 model from new which had a great throttle connection but was a bit lairy when pushing on, the handling on my RS is spot on for me.

 

Thanks Richard, the model in question I may have a chance of is 2016 R model, it's been said before that I probably wouldn't see that much of a difference to mine but as you say it's mainly down to the later styling I'd be drawn by but not sure that alone is worth the extra outlay over what mine is worth.

 

Good point Dave, you still have the ride by wire stuff on the 2016 model.
In fact I test rode a 2016 model before the new 2018/9 model came out and
was not impressed particularly as I did not feel it warranted the change for me.
When the RS came out that was the one for me...

 

i know a couple of folk who have had the 2016 model and went back to the older model as it has better engine braking when rolling or shutting off the throttle,infact they said the newer model had very little engine braking

I have a 16 R and rate the Ohlins over the standard suspension.

 

I owned both models, I would only change if it was a great deal.

 

I had the 2015 one and now have a 2016s, i like the smoother throttle and the electric safety net.

Power wise not much in it, the s has a full arrow sounds the nuts...probe get away from the line quicker on the s if your hamfisted like me.

If I had the 2015 and had the choice between a 2016 or 2018 s/rs id go for the 2018.

I’ve had both and the new one handles better and feels more compact but isn’t as comfortable and has less grunt way down low in the rpms

 

Thanks Danimal, I have the genuine Triumph gel seat on mine making it probably the most comfortable bike I've owned which is important in my book, another point to stick with what I have.

 

I'm not leaving my 2011 yet...........yet.
