Sadly my lovely enfield interceptor is now a write off. A young mum on the school run pulled out in front of me, didn't even get a chance to brake...t boned the car went over the handle bars and landed on the bonnet face first. Got the usual "sorry l didn't see you"...no because you don't f****g look! Amazingly l walked away with no more than a cut lip! Pity about the bike though...l really liked it, unfortunately the frame is bent so it's a cat B write off. Her insurance company have accepted liability and luckily a couple of witnesses came forward but l still have all the hassle of getting the claim sorted and no doubt they will only offer me auction money for the bike. Oh well...such is life.....
At least you walked away. Buy a lottery ticket today. Bikes can be replaced you can’t . We have a brand new Royal Enfield dealer just opened this week. They do make some Bonny bikes don’t they? Very tempting.
So glad to hear you weren't badly hurt! Whatever insulting offer the insurance company make, politely argue for more! From experience, I've never settled for any first offer from an insurance co. & always got an acceptable result. Sometimes it takes more than one letter, but be firm, honest & above all polite. If you're looking to replace your Interceptor like for like, do a bit of research, find a good dealers price & tell the insurance co. that would be acceptable. Good luck & hope you're back on the road for spring!
When insurance tries to screw you we should be able to file for emotional trauma. Glad you walked away.
Sorry to hear about you accident. Like has been said at least you are ok, which is great news. Might be worth contact the solicitor company called ‘Sorry mate I didn’t see you’. I think that is what they are called. Good luck with the insurance company, let us know how you get on.
Glad you're OK. I dare say she was updating her fartbook profile, or having a WhatsApp chin wag, reading the news on her phone, or just doing a harmless text.
The only good news in this is that it's only the bike that's written off and not you! I had a Triumph written off last year by my own insurance after being stolen/recovered and was pleasantly surprised at the payout after haggling with the claims adjuster. I'd say you're in a strong position with her insurance admitting liability + witnesses so stick to your guns on value even though the timescale can be very frustrating. I had a similar incident in '94 when a myopic farmer made the same move, wrote off my Fireblade and smacked up my right knee and I only had TPFT insurance. His insurer disputed liability so I had to take it to court but ended up with a payout for the bike higher than I could have got if I'd sold it undamaged! Plus further payouts for the knee injury and helmet/leathers etc. Took around 8 months to get the first payout.
Yes, l was ultra lucky, still can't believe it really. I think l will definitely get another interceptor, l originally bought it as a winter hack but then grew to really like the bike and actually finished up riding it more often than my Triumph. Not sure about them making bonnie parts.
Glad you are OK @speeder Still smarts though doesn`t it? Was talking to my mate yesterday, he was knocked off 2 years (?) ago by a farmer who reversed over him on a country lane! Fortunately he was ok but his Thruxton was a bit battered. took about 4 months to get his bike fixed with genuine parts so he ended up with a courtesy bike through McAms for about 3 months. he had a call this week from his solicitor saying the farmers insurers are happy with the claim but are questioning the bill from McAms-£29000 No wonder insurance is a rip off!
£29,000 for three months bike hire is a complete rip off. WTF if I was the insurance company I would question it as well’s
WTF!! That's over £2200 a week, you can hire a latest Superbike for around 1/3 of that! Are you sure you've not stuck an extra 0 on by mistake?!
As the others have said, at least you live to fight another day and nothing too serious. As much as you love the bike it is only a lump of metal at the end of the day and replaceable, you ain't. Good luck with your claim.
Sorry to hear about your accident makes u realise how vulnerable us riders are. Hope u get sorted soon with everything.
The company is Sorrymate.com. They specialise in motorcycle claims and will take on a claim if your insurance company isn't being fair. Apparently most of them are bikers. They have a very good record and are recommended by, and affiliated to, MAG. I'm pretty sure us members of MAG get some sort of discount (hey, that's another reason to join!). So if you have any problems give them a bell and see what they say. Good luck.
Nope, definitely three zeros! My mate said he could have had a Ferrari! I agree @Wessa , absolute disgrace. One was a Tracer which they took away as they needed to service it and the other an MT09 so nowt special
That definitely sounds like a rip-off, in my case the car drivers insurance company have supplied me with a hire car from enterprise, on looking at the contract the insurance company are actually paying only £20 a day for it. They offered me the choice of a bike or a car and what with the crap weather we have had l opted for the car.
I totally agree, you can't help thinking about it and having flash backs. For me the worst part is the shock....one minute you are riding along minding your own business and the next second you are smashing into a car! I have learnt one thing though...in summer l sometimes wear an open face helmet....never again, not after this!
When my first Street Scrambler got written off after the dealer's repair estimate was verified, the insurance Co. wanted to have their salvage agent recover it as soon as possible to avoid dealer storage charges as most insurers are on the ball regarding their costs when it looks like they will have to pay out. I had the dealer return it to my garage until a payout was agreed on. I find it hard to believe a £29k charge for a hire bike was accepted.
Yep, l had a similar experience, my insurance broker instructed a claims management company called "Fourth dimension" to recover the bike and manage the claim. The car drivers insurance company did not want to deal with them and asked me to call them off which l did and they have now moved the bike to my house and I am dealing directly with the insurer. It's obviously cheaper for them as claims management companies take a big commission from any settlement.
