I have been an H-D rider for many years until this past fall when I rode in the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, here in Florida. ( I borrowed a friend's '83 Honda 350 converted to a bobber!) I always loved Triumph's when I was growing up and to see so many on a ride made my decide to start looking again. My most recent bike WAS a Harley Davidson Street Glide Special. I usually try to ride to work, so I need the bags but I never used the radio or GPS or any of the other bells and whistles. I wanted to return to what has always made riding fun, the simplicity of a bike, the handling, the open air, and the sound of an engine rumbling. (I guess I had the rumble on the Harley). I found a 2013 Thunderbird ABS at my local dealer, that had just been traded for a Thunderbird LT. I fell in love. It is red marble haze, and the dealer said based on the VIN was actually a 1700. The holidays passed and the weather has been rotten (for Florida) so I couldn't ride to the dealership and take the Thunderbird for a test ride. I was sure it was going to be sold and I kept watching it online to see if it was available. Last week I finally was able to get to the dealership with my bike. My test ride was amazing, and I was grinning the entire time. We did the usual test loop, and when we returned, they let me go again, I was having so much fun. I am now the proud owner of a Thunderbird ABS. I am excited to join this forum and I know I will learn a lot from all you experts! Thanks, Steve
Welcome to the nut house you should fit right in. Tucker Pa we like lot's of photos keeps the inmates happy.
Hello Steve and welcome in to the Triumph Asylum - you'll have lots of fun here once Nursie has brought you your 'Meds' !! Thunderbird 1700, nice bike. But we need pics, lots of pics to drool over.
Hi Steve and welcome in ! Sounds like you had great fun on the distinguished gentlemens ride ! Congrats on the bike, glad you got it ! Now post some pics for us to drool !
A couple of quick photos from last night. It was raining out so I just took them in the garage. In the back is "my" MG V7, that my daughter "claims", and my BMW cage, so at least I have BMW in the garage. Thanks for the welcome all! Much better welcome than I got on the HD forum. It was more like "yeah yeah another Street Glide...so what".
They are amazing bikes, I have the LT, and know just what your saying and how you feel, mile muncher, good riding
Welcome and you've made a good decision to choose Triumph !.. I always had British bikes but a couple of years ago 'tricked myself' into trading my Speedmaster & Tiger 800 in to get a Harley Road Glide as I thought I'd always wanted a big tourer... I lasted 6 months before getting another Bonneville and only a few months more before trading the Harley for another Tiger 800, (+ £5K in my back pocket). Apart from the size, weight , heavy handling, awful fuel consumption I was surprised at suddenly being ignored when out on the road... none of the friendly waves, nods I got on Triumphs from all bikers (except Harley riders) .. and I didn't even get a nod from other Harleys even though I was on one! ...Back on my Triumphs its like 'coming home' with all the camaraderie from other bikers so I hope its as friendly as this in the States with your Thunderbird... oh, and yes this forum is just as friendly with lots of good advice and humour from down to earth bikers... cheers
Welcome in Steve from another TBird rider. The auxiliary lights make a big difference if you are riding at night so would recommend getting them at some point. Experts .... not in here, more a bunch of loons
