Like @Old dumb arse (formerly known as @Old phart phred), I also got canned thanks to COVID-19. Got a call from my supervisor this past Wednesday morning with the news. The school where I work relies heavily on tuition and enrollment is down and continuing to drop thanks to parents who are also losing their jobs. So my job along with several others have been eliminated for the '20-'21 school year.

Thankfully my employment agreement runs through mid-August and will be honored. But I'm now on the hunt for a new job. Sigh. Fortunately I've done pretty much all the mods on my motorcycles that I care to do since parts money will be scarce if I don't find work after August. That said, Mr. Sandi and I certainly aren't spending much at the moment. Today I realized that one year ago this weekend we were in Laughlin, Nevada at the annual River Run rally with three of our riding buddies having a grand ol' time. What a difference from then to now.

But thankfully Mr. Sandi and I are healthy, we have a nice home in which to "shelter in place", our boxer, Annie, is happy that we're home all day long, and our pantry and fridge are full. We really are blessed in spite of everything.

So how many other forum members out there are out of a job due to the global pandemic??

Sorry to hear that Sandi, I hope everything works out well for you
It’s a sad reality hitting a lot of people all around the world right now, I know of a lot of people not just being furloughed but the company’s gone so nothing to come back to..

Sorry to hear your bad news Sandi. Good luck in finding something else and keep yer chin up. :grinning:
Thankfully you’re ok till August. I’m guessing you’ll still be getting paid?
If so, that must be some relief for you.
Hope you’re on the mend too and more mobile now. :)

Me too, had a sit down with my boss on Friday afternoon and he said I am on notice until end of May
Looking for a job too, along with many others
The furlough scheme isn't enough to cover the business overheads so it is likely they will be reducing six regional offices to three or even two
Many of our customers were small independent and specialist businesses that don't have a cushion in the bank to fall back on so losing almost half our customer base so far

Really sorry to hear this news @Sandi T. I think you have a good attitude about your predicament. I’m pretty sure you’ll find something pretty soon. Just keep looking, and something will turn up. In the meantime just enjoy spending time at home.

Bad times all around. No. 2 daughter sacked four weeks ago from government job. No. 1 daughter hanging on by fingernails at the ballet school she runs. I live day to day. However, my trust is in the Lord. Possessions may fall away, but I am saved and that is comfort enough. Hope you find work. Lock-down needs to end. It isn't working. We are just destroying ourselves. I don't know how this will come out, but Jesus gives me faith enough to take one more step.

7/8 of state (KS) has very little reason for lockdown but the state government is monkey see monkey do. And they now wondering if they can recover.

Sorry @Sandi T. That sucks been out of work for a month, unemployment denied because I only had a common cold and not the virus. Will appeal since I got a stern email from from HR and the president of the company to not to return to work for the eight days I was out. Email was probably deleted from my company account. Will see if they want to lie on the stand. I'm guessing the 65 days of leave accumulated at the company will hold any weight (yes I got paid for them in a reset to the tune of about $35k)

My sympathy to those out of work. Know all too well what that is like. In my 50+ years working.I never had a job longer than 6 years. I.always had my resume' polished and in ink. Always had the saying."That is why mechanic's tool boxes have wheels". Doesn't make it any easier.when you have no money coming in. These days I am too old to get a job anywhere. Again...My sympathies folks. ...J.D.

You will hear various economists talking of U, V, & W recoveries.
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recession_shapes

My hope is the lockdown proves short enough for a sharp bounce back (V!) rather than a more gradual recovery (U!) but I fear with successive waves it could be a W (dithering!).

V is best for jobs in shortest time. The truth is we will all have different recoveries even within countries, states and counties.

So sorry to hear about your job loss Sandi. Real challenging times for you guys work wise in the USA at the moment. The safety net here in UK is probably disguising what is going to happen in the future.
Hope it bounces back for you soon and as you say, you and Me S are in good health. Nothing tops that.

It is at times like these that test what you are made of. Over the years, I have had to "re-invent" myself many times. Don't be afraid to try something new. Ask yourself "what OTHER businesses use my kind of skills ?" I raised 4 kids and my wife stayed home, but I sold my mechanical skills where I could, doing what I could find for over 5 decades..Tough times do not last, but tough people do. Wish the best outcome for all of you. ...J.D.
