    Hi all,

A Brit living in the Czech Rep.
Stopped riding when I moved some 15+ years ago and just got my first bike here.
The roads are a nightmare and potholes are more like the Mariana Trench.

Just got myself an old 2001 955 Speed Triple.
She needs some engine work, but I look forward to putting her on the road properly next year.

This being said, I will be looking to you all for help and advice at various points.

I'm not a mechanic, but have a logical mind and a fairly good working knowledge of engines.

As I build my workshop, so shall I improve my collection of motorcycles.
For now, I'm happy just to have two wheels back in my garage.

Better pictures and discussion to come, thanks in advance and take it easy on me if I do ask something stupid.

    Ride safe,
    Dave 'Mad-Dawg' Munns

    Howdy Duckadile,
I think I've been reading a couple of your posts. You also went through the Triumph engine tapping.
Did you ever get it sorted and running smooth-er?

Like all the posts on here, every little bit of insight helps, it's my first Triumph and first bike in this country means I'm learning new things everyday. It's like going back in time and going through my CBT again...
Dealers here don't want to speak (it's almost like they don't want to make money), parts have to be imported (so I'll get them from the UK 'cause Germany is hugely expensive) and I'm having to put my workshop together as I go...

As for the bike, with just 1900Km's on the clock, I have no idea of the service history, only that the previous owner bought it from a mechanic in Sweden.. which could mean anything :D

So for me, I'll start with the basics and work my way out starting with Valves and Chain.
To be fair, I wouldn't have thought about checking the injectors. Thanks for that :)

    hi there
you've been to County Durham then 8)
mine's a 2001 (RS) still going strong.. bear in mind the 955 triples do cackle burble and pop coming off the acceleration... just a peculiarity of the beast

    nice bike you've got there

hahahaha, thanks, I guess they get worse each year all over the place :)

Oh, these engine issues are there, it's not just the usual noise.
Cold start is fine, but once it warms up (5 minutes) there's a definite tapping, then once warm it stalls when I pull up to junctions or when idling.
it did just a few km's last year sitting for most of it and was dropped at slow speed on the left hand side scuffing the casing.

I have a fair bit to do before she's road worthy for next season.

reset the Throttle Position Sensor in Tune ECU if you can - and check you have the right tune on the ECU... also visually check the condition of the hoses to the throttle bodies from the stepper motor air idle assembly... check shims and throttle body balancing ...

sounds like one of those lets work through the possibilities problems.... just remember - as long as it starts and runs it's not a basket case
