Honda just announced their NT1100 sports tourer, Kawasaki has the Ninja 1000sx, Suzuki the GSX1000GT. This is a gap in Triumphs lineup since the Tiger Sport 1050 changed into the least sporty bike ever, the 850? Sports tourers are making a comeback, all Triumph has is the Tiger 900 GT/GTP, which are Adventure Sports bikes, unless you clever people know otherwise.
I think the Sport Tourer class has always been popular, there's just a bigger choice of machines now. I've still got the ZZR1400 I bought in 2012 and It's one of the best all round road bikes I've ever owned. I guess it's slightly more Sports than Tourer, compared to the latest offerings but obviously not in the R1/GSXR class. It's just been discontinued by Kawasaki who are going down the supercharged smaller engined bike route with the H2 range. Triumph take note!
Triumph also have the Tiger Sport 660, which is just a Trident with a half-fairing. I think most of the big power Sports Tourers have been replaced by the Adventure style bikes - BMW S1000XR, Ducati Multistrada etc. The new Suzuki does look very nice and if it had been launched six months ago could have been my next bike. My ideal bike would be the Speed Triple 1200 with a fairing and comfy suspension.
