    Hi Everyone
Just been out for a lovely sunny but COLD ride, which got me thinking about keeping my hands warm in the colder weather.
What are your thoughts on heated grips or heated gloves, any pros or cons that you can let me know about?
    Cheers

    El Tel

Keeping the wind blast off your hands and keeping your core temperature up is the best way to keep your pinkies happy. Your arms and legs are the body's heat exchangers and if you loose too much heat your body reduces the bloodflow to your extremities to preserve the heat in your vital organs. Several thin layers to trap in the heat or perhaps a heated vest. Hand guards or muffs (no sniggering) keep the wind off your hands and heated grips to go with not-too-tight winter gloves will be belt and braces dandy.

Or like me just put the bike away until Spring...

Not a bad idea that mate, as i'm not sure if heated grips would do the trick cos in my case today my hands weren't too bad but it was my finger tips that really suffered and i was lovely and toastie on my legs and upper body.

Just done a weekend run to York - 150 miles in 2 degrees. Tiger Sport with handguards and heated grips. But I also wear a heated jacket and heated glove liners. Heated grips are ok to a point but in real cold they do not stop the backs of your hands getting chilled - and neither do handguards. As it was I was quite snug, despite the hail. The heated jacket is amazing, I only wear a long sleeve vest under it to prevent it burning! I also wear deep sea diver long johns which are very effective. My outer layer is Klim so it has no linings and allows me to add the combo I find best matches the weather.

Wots winter ?, why do you think I escaped to the colonies, finest climate in all the world. Winter is approx 2 C to 18/19 C, blue skies, and no rain till approx October, when we get our summer rains, I can leave Jhb in the middle of winter, (June) hit the South Coast, (Ramsgate,SA), 22/25 C and still swim in the Indian Ocean. You don't want to go there in summer, it can hit 36/38 C and the humidity can hit 100%. Brutal. It's tough being a white man in Africa these days.

I’ve always found the best way to deal with cold hands feet and body is..

Leave the bike in the garage, get somebody else to warm up the car and voila lovely and toasty I can drive for miles

For me winter riding is all part of the fun of owning a bike. I'm selective on when I ride in the winter, but could never put my bike away for the whole winter. Pick the best days and get out there, ride and enjoy.......

They were hard in the old days, a little bit of rain didn't stop them from riding.
