Just registered as I'm picking up a 2003 955i speed triple tomorrow. I was wondering if there are any specific areas I should inspect on the bike before handing over the cash? I've read there are a few issues with the RR (seems to be a common problem with lots of different bikes) so I was going to do a basic test with the meter across the battery terminals to check it's not under or over charging. Is there anything else I should check? What about the swinging arm, is there a special tool required for adjusting the chain? Sorry for the dumb questions, but it was a bit of an impulse purchase, always fancied one and my resistance crumbled!
When you get an itch you need to scratch it  just remember that its an older bike and things happen....but nothing that cant be fixed :upyeah:
Welcome to the forum Big Rob The early twin head light Speed Triples are cracking bikes, or though I don't think it's an older bike (well compared to mine anyway) I take you have checked that the bike has no outstanding finance and that it hasn't been involved in a crash previously. These bikes are fairly bulletproof and like any other bike as long it has been looked after properly you shouldn't have any problems. You may also want to invest in one of these are they are brilliant not only for working on the bike but also general maintenance. Picked the bike up yesterday, all checked out OK, love the power, but then my previous bike was an ER5! First problem the chain is absolutely cream crackered, how do replace the chain and sprockets on a bike without a center stand? I guess I will be investing a paddock stand very soon!
