Hello I am new here and want to introduce myself and say I am riding a Triumph bonneville Newchurch 2016, ok so far, I recently saw a another bike I liked the look of and enquired what I need to do a deal on the exchange with the salesman considering his offer for my bike and what he wanted for the bike I was considering to purchase we agreed figures and shook hands on the deal. Well on the day we where signing log books etc, etc. he was suddenly called out by the manager to an outside area where my bike was. He came back in and stated he was in a strange predicament and he had not ever come across before in all his years of selling and buying motorcycles. I enquired what was the problem and he said the manager had been looking over my bike and said there was a strange "noise" coming from the engine! I stated that it didn't have a noise when I rode it to the shop. Cutting a long story short after a couple of days and phone calls and negotiations they now say it is going to require fixing and I would need to put in a extra sum of money in an extra £600+ to complete the deal. I would agree the bike does seem a little noisy only minor almost undetectable to a novice. My question is is a slight noise something that would cost £2500 to put right? The noise seems to come from the topped end if that helps.
David Jackson I think the dealer is pulling your chain and certainly wouldn't be getting my money. What miles are on your bike and what service history have you got. Was the dealer a Triumph Franchised dealer or a monkey. If he was name and shame him. If your miles are higher probably all you need is a head refresh with new shims to the noisy tappet. But do tell us a little more. A top end refresh certainly does not cost that kind of money either. All that said welcome to the Family. Do drop us a picture of the steed. Regards Joe.
The bike has only just gone over 3000 miles the bike missed its 500mile service owner unknown so don't know why. Dealer name I will keep to myself for now (franchised) want to see if they keep up the same behaviour. But I think I will be walking away from this deal.
David Jackson. Has the bike had any service at all. You know that 500 mile service is an all important service as it a cleaning / flushing service. But 3000 miles should not make it tope noisy. But try to contact the previous owner see if he changed the oil and filter. And do change it for safety sake. I do really think the dealer is still pulling your chain and hoping to cash in at your expense. Try another dealer. If you can try to post a YouTube video then transfer it to the forum and the peeps here will soon help you along with any concerns. The Newchurch is a nice bike so don't be to disappointed with it. Regards Joe.
Welcome David. I’d agree with the others who’ve replied, and I’d be walking away. It seems to me like they’re trying to pull a fast one. Maybe the salesman has done you too good a deal and his boss isn’t happy about it, who knows. At the end of the day, whatever bike it is you’re looking at, there’s going to be others around.
Hi David, and welcome in walk away, take it to a trusted mechanic to check over then find somewhere else to buy as this sounds like a well used ploy to get more cash
Welcome to the madhouse you should fit right in. To keep the inmates happy we will need photos Tucker
Hello David and welcome to the forum Get a second opinion mate and be prepared to tell the salesman the deal is off,,,,,there’s plenty more bikes for sale out there.
David Jackson In all honesty I have to say the dealership have shown me the engine with the top of 2 shafts with other top parts all neatly laid out and I was allowed to see for myself the offending bearing and one in particular is worn as if it’s been metal on metal the edge being very sharp indeed. I have to say this has been caused maybe from a oil blockage where the feed hasn’t been getting through to lube the cam and bearing. I have to admit the dealership has gone a long way to show me the faults and explanation of why this has happened it’s not a situation I am pleased about but have to say they have bent over backwards to help and git new parts to put the problem right so big credit to them considering they didn’t sell me the bike in the first place.
Hi David and welcome to the forum best of luck with your repairs and decision on new ride. Looking forward to pics
