I had my first ride on an Explorer today and really like the bike. I'm thinking of getting rid of my 50k plus BMW adventure after 8 yrs. Found the windscreen on the explorer too small so:
    1. Is the touring screen better and if not, what other screen is the best? Pics would be great.
    2. Didn't have a back box on the test bike so my Mrs was hanging on for dear life. Would be fitting metal boxes if I buy an explorer so what does your pillion passenger say about all day comfort? We tour the Alps etc every year and regularly do 500 plus mile days..
    3. Has anyone fitted winglets (if they exist for the triumph)?
    4. What protection for the engine (paint and finish) is available?
    5. What boxes fit easily onto the triumph?
    6. Is there any inherent issues with the explorer. My BMW has had all the normal failures (final drive, ring antenna, fuel pump controller, etc etc).

I would like an XC so any advice about all of the above is greatly appreciated. I have loved the BMW Adventure and may still end up buying a new one, but there's something about the triumph I really like. So come on, give me your best reason for the Brit instead of the German..

I look forward to hearing from you.. Regards...

Hi and welcome to the forum

The Explorer is a great bike and there aren't that many issues with the bike that I know of after the sorted the bucket shims on the recall earlier this year. There are loads of triumph parts like screens so that shouldn't be a problem.

As far as the XC goes there are some guys on the forum here who should be able to point you in the right direction on this bike.

    Cheers

    Steve

Hi and welcome to the forum. I currently ride the 800 XC and also test rode the Explorer which I personally found just a little too big but I don't ride two up and I think the Explorer is better suited for two up riding.
All the early explorers have had a top end engine recall that I believe was done at the factory.
A little like BMW there are loads of aftermarket screens available and I use Triumph touring screen which is taller with better protection but still get quite a lot of noise.
I have the Triumph luggage which is the same on the Explorer, its reasonable quality but very heavy..... think the 8.5 kg for just the top box alone but it does have a nice back rest for my non existent passenger.
I am personally interested in testing the new LC GS and wondered if you had considered and tested one?
