I've just had the heated grips replaced on my Street Triple by my local garage and I'm not sure they've installed them correctly.

Before they were routed under the bars and when they dropped off the bike they've installed the new throttle side over the bars and cabled tied it to the brake line. The clutch side they've done under the bars which just seems odd to me.

Functionally it seems ok, but cosmetically I'm not keen. And all I can see is this cable moving towards me every time I twist the throttle.

Should I be asking them to take it back and refit it under the bars?

@CotswoldBiker Yes think I would be asking them to readjust the throttle side so that the wiring is to the bottom of the throttle.

I'd be fine with that. Look at under bar route and the cable has to turn 180° which creates a stress point. Plus at bigger throttle openings your thumb will wind up whacking the lead...:)

Just saying. All the heated grips i have had on and some by Bulldog have been to the bottom. And things like levers and all that slightly adjusted to suit. I would not like that either. Just seems wrong.

It does suggest this way as an alternative routing option in the install manual I found online. The garage keeps trying to make the point it has to be correct and not interfere with the front brake. I assume because they don't want to have to re-do it. But there's masses of clearance and like others have said, on this style of bike it just doesn't look right.

I rode it routed underneath for over four years and never had any issues. My thumbs never touched the cable and besides the perished grips, it was all working perfectly.

I agree. Never seen another Striple with it routed this way.

If you zoom in to my bars you'll see how Kawasaki did it....

Not so bad when the wire bends to the left like your Kawasaki, but it's sticking straight ahead on the Oxford grips. Makes for quite a large untidy loop.

Yes, ask them to re-route it under the bars for consistency and cleaner looks. The throttle-side cable moving with the grip is normal, but if it bothers you and the clutch side is tucked, they should match it. A tidy install matters especially if you paid for the job. No harm in requesting a proper fix.

The problem is, I'm not sure anyone can categorically say this is wrong.

Did you specify when you asked them to do the job?

If you didn't specify, and they have completed the job in a safe manner, then should they be expected to work on it again for free?

Awkward one and not something I personally would experience, as I would be fitting them myself for exactly these sorts of issues.

Are these OEM Triumph grips or aftermarket? Reason I ask is the grips on my Scrambler have the wires routed inside the bars.
