Forgot about this !!! Believe it or not, this is a 67 plate BMW R1200 RS He took it to the BMW dealer, and they have put it to BMW headquarters as a possible warranty claim ???? Feck that, they should have just ordered him a replacement on the spot. Not just the seat subframe, but also most of the fasteners and metal parts are in a hell of a state. Bike not used over winter, so not been covered in salt. So Triumphs aren't that bad
Or, the rest of the world see what Triumph are producing at what cost and have decided to join in. Expensive bikes with a crappy finish - not my idea of fun.
Happens to cheap bikes, too ...... https://mt09.motorcycle-talk.com/forum/threads/the-offical-where-is-yours-rusting-thread.1147/ ..... and there's always the stories about Triumph's infamous chrome rims and spokes rusting .... https://adventurebikerider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=Avatar46012 Pays yer money, I guess?
In the case of my pals BMW, it was a large chunk of money!!! He had a BMW previoulsy, another ugly flat engined thing. Took it in for a service at 5/6 years old, and the repairs were going to be close to £2k, sensors, exhaust, valve checks Think he might be changing brands, says he's going to go back to Suzuki.
That’s the problem with modern bikes to many sensors etc that may fail along with expensive valve checks, balancing of throttle bodies etc. OK some can be sorted with tune Ecu but not every one is comfortable using that. Carbs and tappet adjustment with screw and locknut is the way forward or like my old Honda Nighthawk hydraulic valves
