Evening you mad bunch, I need YOUR views on rock music, specifically, which country has produced better music over the last 7 decades..... America or Britain Personally, I lean over to the brit side of the debate but my teenage son believes America has produced better. In the interest of fairness, I have listed (in my mind) the greatest each nation has produced to help you make a decision. (note: i'm not Wikipedia, so if a band or rock icon is omitted you like, post below) American Rock: Muddy Watters, John Lee Hooker, Elvis, Bill Haley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Hendrix, Beach Boys, The Doors, Eagles, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Metallica Gun’s and Roses, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, REM, Rage Against The Machine, Queens of the Stone Age, Blink 182, Weezer, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, White Stripes, Kings of Leon, the Killers British Rock: The Shadows, the Animals, Beatles, the Who, Stones, Kinks, Sex Pistols, the Clash, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Motorhead, Bowie, Pink Floyd, Queen, Clapton, the Police, Dire Straits, Joy Division, Oasis, Blur, Verve, Radiohead, Muse, Coldplay, Travis, Razorlight, Franz Ferdinand, the Kooks, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys
Brilliant bands Shite bands Both sides of the pond Too many bands on both sides missing from the list Besides the last time I voted for something all Feckin hell broke loose I shall abstain
Had to go British but great music from both sides of the pond and you could have included AC DC with the Scottish connection then it's a no brainer
I voted British, again on the bands that werent on the list though tbh if it were last 15 years it would have been USA. The British list tails off rather badly in comparison to the USA after Oasis. I mean Verve and Coldplay, music to empty a funeral service (not meaning to disrespect your list but wtf).
initially I thought this would be a hard question to answer as 2 of my all time favourite bands are British, Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones, but if there hadn't been the American blues artists and Chuck Berry who has probably influenced every rock guitarist on the planet, and of course Elvis, without them there wouldn't be a British list,so in the end it was an easy question to answer!
There is no accounting for taste. Musical genres blend and influence one another and national, racial and other boundaries are rendered meaningless. So, ‘better’? Well let’s just say only the Swedes have thrown up some half decent competition but the RoW got blitzed between Uncle Sam and John Bull.......but you cannot discount African rhythms and Scottish folk tunes and ......and.......and ..... But it was late and Judd was maybe ‘tired and emotional ‘?
Well Rory is Irish, not British so he would have no place on the list! Cream should definitely be on there but Clapton is so I guess it's covered.
Yeah but Jack Bruce was Cream, Eric has been fairly ordinary on his own. Just my opinion of course. Not forgetting the Ginger one either.
This is a question without a correct answer! All we can do is vote on a list based on our own opinion. Like most all of us, I have likes and dislikes, just my opinion which doesn't make it right or wrong. Just mine!
Gotta agree with you there DD about Elvis. Can't agree about Bowie though. Some of his work was out of this world
Not sure I can make a choice here, to many good bands in both lists and there are loads of others not listed....
I posted this up Yesterday, Bon Scott with the Valentines.. Couldn't be much further away from AC/DC! https://www.thetriumphforum.com/thr...r-fave-youtube-clips.7971/page-14#post-266794
Yank then Brit, Yank then Brit decisions decision,,,,, British I think,,,,hang on erm it’s Brits Add into the mix one for each side Boston and Rainbow with Graham Bonnet
No Def Leppard, Iron Maiden or UFO? Why the hell are Coldplay in there? There's your bellend DD in Chris Martin! Also missing The Smiths and The Stone Roses.
Ah here, Thin Lizzy are Irish too, not British! You have plenty good bands, stop trying to claim the few good ones we have too
Come on DD, Johnny Marr is one of our best guitarists and still going from strength to strength. Plus The Smiths were a massive influence on many other bands, both here and over there!
We're also missing Jeff Beck but to be fair, the USA should probably add Joe Walsh. If you're including blues players then the list should have: BB King Albert King Freddie King Buddy Guy Albert Collins Robert Cray You need Iggy in there too!
