Sat here buzing after a smashing day out, and it occurs to me;- What a fantastic bike the 955i is. Now I am not the most experienced by any means, so there are probably lots of other great bikes out there ,and if you read the bike press they are all to happy to tell us what to think. Whats the best bike you have owned? I think the neutral handling of the Sprint is fantastic, confidence building and not only into the corner also out the other side. The engine brings a smile to my face just thinking about the acceleration, the smooth delivery the gearbox, may seem slightly clunky when cold and yet when hot that solid change is reassuring and measured. Although the Sprint is a tourer there more than enough sport for me and although a Daytona is tempting this fat old man will stay on the tourer for now. I am curious about the 1050 and the 675 ,any imfo ? So whats your best every ride?
These are some of the bikes that I've owned and they've left a positive vibe in my heart, in no particular order: 1. BMW 1150 GS - just a fabulous sport/tourer/adventure do it all well bike; 2. BMW 1100S - the most stable bike in fast corners I've ever ridden; 3. Duke ST2 - vastly underrated bike. All-day comfortable, as that racing history distilled into her soul; 100% reliable; 4. Honda Valkyrie - 6 open pipes (days of thunder loud!!!!), soooo comfortable, fanny magnet bar none!!!! 5. Tiger 955i - best combination of engine power delivery/gearbox gearing; handling; fuel economy and range.
Past bikes that I owned and was impressed with, Honda cx500 and Yamaha tr1. Both unassuming ugly and unpopular when first came out but were forever reliable handled really well if ridden properly and were unknickable cos no one wanted them
The fact that I've still got my '95 Trident 900 (bought new) after all this time does, I think, speak for itself. There are a few others that I wish I still had (in no particular order):- 1972 Suzuki GT550J 1977? Yamaha XS750 1969 Bonneville T120 Benelli 900 Sei Laverda Montjuic 500 2002 Daytona 955i CE And finally, if a little strangely, a 1979 BMW R100RS - it really was quite nice!
Suzuki GS 750 good engine, swing arm by name ... Yamaha XJ900 shaft very good dependable bike Yamaha TDM 850 , similar to xj in build and handling my bikes are always old (cheap) so not seeing them at there best the 955i is by a long way, in front
Talking of speeding it's been over 2 weeks and nowt through the letterbox so hopefully that's the end of my speeding worry
Started on Suzuki GP100 then moved up to a Suzuki GT 125 then a Honda Superdream. Also at this time Suzuki GS750 (Honda was my winter bike) got hit by a car on it, spent 6 months in hospital, when I got out after 3 months i was loaned by a mate a Suzuki ER50 trials bike as my leg wouldn't bend to reach the pedals on a road bike, God it was slow but it got me around. Sold the GS.when my leg got a bit better I then had a GPZ 750, then a brand new ZZR 1100. Loved it to bits in straight lines but not on bends, this bike got stolen out of my garage. Then 3 months later was found rapped around a car.No rider.?. Then had a brand new Suzuki RF900, great bike and cheap.couldnt fault it in any way Then i got married, and that finished my bikes Got my life back when I separated and brought Penelope
I love my speed triple but one bike that stands out is my old GSXR K5, at the time it was the drug that gave me a buzz and was very similar to an early Fireblade i had.
SUZUKI RF900 for all round performance handling cheapness and looks. A real all rounder.if anyone has owned one you would know what I mean.
Found this its 6 years old but I likey lots Being a little bit bias (I work for Triumph) I would go for the ST or the RS. Unfortunately I have not ridden either but have spoken to many people who have given the RS a try and been amazed at its all round agility and handling. Try them both and see what the heart says.
A Suzuki sp 370. Yeah I know but I was young it it wasn't. But it WAS awesome, and got me mobile. My 900ss was excellent. Great handling and reliable as hell. My (don't laugh) sv 650. Brilliant to ride and all day comfy. The two bikes I REALLY regret getting rid of are a 2011 speed triple, and a 2005 multistrada 1000s. I now have the wasp, a 2015 94R, and she is AWESOME! ATB Bob
no that was me quoting some guy on some forum somewhere, forums what can u do. Anyway on a different subject I spoke to a salesman in Elgin last week, He said ... and I quote " the 955i s and the 1050 s dont sell " I dont understand how 5 star bikes can be passed over for lesser bikes of the same age. When I started looking for a replacement for the TDM 850 I did a lot of reading and the two on top were the VFR and the Sprint, went for the Triumph cos I always wanted one, but if the reviews were bad I would have passed it by.
Think I passed a skoal bandit rg the other day on the a59. It was a twisty road so didn't get time to ogle, but the twin pipes and green paintwork I definitely saw. Bob
