Hi All I've been riding for 12 years now, and have owned two Honda CB500's a BMW R1150rs and a Trophy 1200, all of which I have loved. But recently I have inherited a 1969 Bonneville T120, and although it has been loved over the years (one owner since new), I am concerned that it has sat unridden outside (under a plastic cover) for the last two winters. I am fairly happy wheedling a set of spanners and did dismantle and reassemble my Trophy, so can imaging the Bonnie will be a joy to work on, although i'm no expert! Can anyone please give me some advise on: a) things to look out for and check on or prior starting it up for the first time? b) it has been loved, but it has been very economically cared for over the years with mostly original and budget parts used, are there any parts that i should consider upgrading/replacing/modernising to help increase the life of the machine and perhaps it ride-ability/economy/distance etc... Should the chain be replaces with o-rings? should the carbs be upgraded? I'm not really a speed deamon, so performance in speed isn't my desire, but comfortable longevity or ride is, looking at the service book it states 500mile service intervals! I'd love to tour on it if i could get the vibes down etc... Thanks for any advice in advance! Wyndham III
Hi and welcome to the forum. Don' t know a great deal about the old Triumph's but there are some other members who I'm sure will be able to help you out. Cheers Steve
Hi and welcome to the forum , before starting make sure that the oil is returning to the oil tank ,fresh petrol ,new spark plug ,check the clutch if free and oil in the gearbox is up to the level . As for the rest if it is an original bike I would leave it alone , give it a full check over tyres wheel bearing and if the rear chain is worn out then change it ,if not check the adjustment is ok and ride it , I have had British bikes for over 20 years and never spent loads of cash on then, as for the carbs if fuel has been left in them they might need a clean out and the jets cleaned but I would see if it runs and have a quick ride up and down the road ,if all seems well just use it , the motto ' if it ain't broke do fix it '. Hope this helps and good luck :upyeah:
