Keeping the proposal thread clean for proposals, put yer shite in here, debate mainland UK only as a venue for GMU's/ going oversea's, etc. Basically all the crap you've been talking in the France proposal thread but put it in here.

It is so brilliant that the guys that have been to a GMU want to do it all over again, within days of getting back. Can't believe we have to have a banter thread up 11 months before we go !!!!! :p

    I've a question - Did people prefer the Thur/fri/Sat/Sun of 2018 to the Fri/sat/sun/mon of 2017?

Is it easier to book off work, etc ???

No real preference other than travelling home on Sunday meant less traffic.

Thats a good point, also roads be quieter on a friday for the rideout, rather than doing them both at the weekend. I did 260 miles home in 4 hours from Wales, loads of motorway, but at them speeds kept you on yer toes

Roads were very empty but that could have been because it was the Puffball World Cup final later that day?

I'm easy. Whatever suits the location to get the best ride-out conditions for large groups.

More to the point mate, what's the ale like.

Both mate. Usually indoors is warm enough to get away with summer gear (three layers).

Scotland sounds good to me .
I definitely think we should have the main GMU in the UK for ease of access for most members.
I also think we should have at least one other International GMU like Germany this year.
Nothing to stop other organised trips such as the Scottish Road trip as well.

Maybe we could arrange them so that you can go from one to the other over a 2 week period!

In that case, although the 2017 GMU was a bit of a trek for yours truly.
I guess we are not going to get a more fair/central location than Bellingham?

Having said that....... How about "central" based on population density? @Sprinter you know all about that mate :p

I suggested north Derbyshire but don't know the area well enough to put a proposal together.

It has a lot going for it in terms of good biking roads, loads of various types of holiday accommodation & stunning scenery.

Maybe a few of us could look into the idea as a group effort?

    1) One or more folk look at potential rideout routes
    2) Somebody else look at accommodation options.
    etc

I don't mind looking at accommodation options. Once suitable rideouts have been discussed. No point finding an ideally located bunkhouse & hotels. If the roads around them are deemed unsuitable?
Or would it be better to find accommodation first?

It seems that we have now agreed that the GMU will be in the UK, I guess we now need to agree on the location.....
