German trip

    Leaving for Germany in the morning via an early Euro-tunnel crossing.
    One stop over in Maastricht and then on to Treis-Karden in the Mosel Valley.
    These should come in useful - it has numbered markers to show "important motorcycle places" (mit Motorradtreffs). (the other bit translates as "tear and water resistant").

    Last trip was on the Bonnie - the Tiger will definitely be more comfortable.

    The first time I visited Germany by road, me and a mate were passing Aachen in the direction of Köln. I was looking at the map as we passed roads for Ausfahrt and thought I wonder if that is near Köln, to judge how far we had to go?

    Kept seeing signs for Ausfahrt and thought this must be a bloody big place, but no sign of it on the map - weird or what????

    Can you imagine how stupid I felt as I was recounting this story to some German lads in a bar in Köln and they told me what it meant - exit !!!!!!!: Doh !!!!

    Have a good one Steve. I would love to go back to the mosel valley, last time on a bike was in the mid 70's

    How dare you! Both were fantastic bikes. Back in the day when you only did an oil change if you could stand the dip stick up in it or there was no oil left in it. We did many a trouble free mile on those 2, that trip was 3 months round Europe and into Greece.

    Oh I see.you could afford to go around Europe for 3 months and into Greece but couldn't afford to change the oil. :oops::Dglad them bikes looked after you better than you looked after them:confused: . What will Doris think if she found out:eek::D

    I've not stayed in Treis -Karden before but have passed through it. We've made about five or six trips to the Mosel valley over the past few years and normally stay in Zell, which is further south. Wanted to be further to the north this time to explore the top bit and some more of the Rhine. Treis - karden is handy because of the river crossing (like Zell) - it's a great place especially towns like Cochem, Beilstein and Bernkastel Kues. Cobbled streets and funny old houses!

    Thanks for posting the ones from your 70's trip - might never have seen those if I hadn't started this thread!

    Good job if you found one on Amazon - I actually bought mine in Germany a couple of years back.

    Initial photos of the trip so far - will do better when I download the ones off the camera.
    Now installed in Treis-Karden after an eventful journey due to the German habit of closing roads and not telling anyone or offerin a diversion!

    Thankfully the temperature is dropping down to the mid twenties after today. 35 degrees is a bugger in full bike gear. Have to confess to ditching the jacket and riding round Maastrict and Treis - Karden in a T-shirt as were many others. Literally hundreds of bikes out today and managed to spot two other Tigers.
