    Hi all,

Anyone got a recommendation of a garage/mechanic near Godalming?

When I was fitting new rear shocks on my scrambler one of the bolts sheared off so now unable to attach it or ride it!

Need the bike for work so after unsuccessful phone calls to destination triumph and gd Brown's (both busy for ages) does anyone have anyone they know who can drill it out or you'd recommend??

    Cheers guys!

Hi Matt, is there any part of the bolt sticking out, or did it brake off flush? If it's flush follow the section below.

To remove the broken-off section is quite straight forward, all you need is an electric or cordless drill and some of these :
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_o...RC0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=left+hand+drill+bit&_sacat=0

The idea is that you start off with a very small drill (using your cordless in 'reverse' or turning anti-clockwise) and drill a hole through the centre of the broken-off bolt still left in the bike. The motion and effort of this drill bit biting into the broken part will normally unscrew it and you're left with a nice clean hole to screw a bolt in. If it doesn't come out with the smallest drill bit, repeat the process with the next size up bit.

The bolts themselves are nothing special and will be available from your local DIY place.

As biggy says! there was another post about this sort of thing somewhere but I couldn't find it. Shows why it's good to put things in relevant area with relevant title I suppose!
Anyways that's the way to do it and probably quicker and cheaper than sending it to a dealer. One thing that's important make sure the shock is supported in a position where it is neither pushing up or pulling down on the bolt.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out. And if you know where the post is biglad put a link up to it as it has a few other suggestions too

    Thanks guys...

If I'm honest I'm not feeling too confident to do it myself. I know it's stupid but snapping the bolt has knock my confidence as this is all quite new to me. It does seem to be a simple job (except I don't have the necessary tools) but I'd hate to make more of a mess of it!!

I'm really enjoying fiddling round with the bike so once this is sorted I'll get back at it but a bit fed up just now! It was the last bolt of the four as well...so close!!!

Understood mate - been there, buggered that !!!!

Any competent mechanic should be able to remove that bolt for you really. How are you going to get it to whichever garage you choose? You know it's not ride-able, right?

Haha yes I do...I've booked a garage that are happy to come pick the bike up which is good. Not till a couple weeks time which is a shame, was meant to be riding down to Devon to see the family next week but at least it will get done so happy again now!

    Cheers for the help!

No probs mate, glad you got it sorted.

Just remember though, motorcycling is about freedom and liberty. There's no freedom if you're always dependant on others to fix it. Get yer tools, do some jobs and rebuild your confidence

Understand fully Matt. Can I ask if you did anything untoward to snap the bolt. Was it the original or one supplied with the shocks?? It's a shame I'm up to my ears in wor....wowo... Wo...wo With That thing that brings the money in to keep the missus happy, or I would come down and given you a hand!

    Not that I'm aware of...

Shocks were on and bolt in at the top, was screwing th next bolt in with out any extra force/ resistance and then it just sheared off....it was the original and seemed in good condition but must have had something a bit dodgy!
