I've just downloaded the instructions for fitting the OEM centre stand to my ST900. The first thing stated is to
"Remove the right hand silencer and catalyst finisher as described in the Service Manual"

OK, maybe I'm being thick (it has been known!) but it looks like there's no such thing as a Service Manual for the Speed Twin AND, does it really need to be done to slip a spindle through holes that look easily accessible?

Over to you - what am I missing and how much of a mess am I about to get myself into?

@Jay Gee Think that is just to give room to fit. If you feel you can fit without all that give it a go. Nothing to loose by trying. In the past the only thing i found was stretching the spring while getting the bolts in. Where a second pair of hands helps.

The reference to a service manual is for the Triumph service manual issued to dealers.
There is a Haynes manual for the original Street Twin which predates your 900 Speed Twin but is a very similar model.

As Joe has said try without removing the silencer but it will give you better access and minimise the risk of damage to the silencer should the pin or spring slip during installation

I recently fitted a centre stand to my 2025 Speed Twin 900. I agree remove the silencer (even though my instructions didn't say to do this ). It makes it much easier when installing the spring which takes a bit of welly.

Thanks for your input, folks. I gave it a go without removing the silencer and guess what? It's easy! As some said, the spring was a tough pull, but with care & a bit of help from a mate with a strategically placed lever it all fitted fine. Now to clean that chain...

You’re not missing much the manual’s overcomplicating it. The spindle can go in without removing the exhaust, but it’s tight. Some folks wiggle it through with patience, others loosen the exhaust for extra room. If you’re stubborn (like me), try forcing it first. If not, just unbolt the rear exhaust hanger and shift it slightly no full removal needed. Minimal mess either way.

@Jay Gee Glad you got it all sorted. And a good read for others thinking about the same procedure. Thanks for the wise words.
