Hi Triumph Forumites, Have been following the forum for a couple of weeks, so eventually decided to join and post summat. Have been away from bikes for long time, really since I totalled my 900SS (and nearly myself as well) in 1979. Never lost the bug though. Following some bad news at the doctors in October last year, next stop was the local dealership for a test ride! Typical immature male reaction I'm told. Tried the street twin, which was absolutely fantastic. Really enjoyed the bike, and decided this was the one for me. Then they let me out on a Thruxton R. Bad idea! So, mulling it all over; considering costs, my time away from bikes, age (!) etc, I ordered a street twin on a month delivery. All very sensible. Went to the dealers the day after to pay the deposit etc, and found myself standing next to a white Thruxton that was in stock. Inevitably, the order for the street twin was canned, and I was back two days later to ride away on the Thruxton! Absolutely magic! I clocked up 1400 miles to the middle of January, and am absolutely delighted with it. Love the looks, the handling, the engine, (smooth or what!) and the electronic gizmos. Brilliant. By late January, the chemo and radio had laid me out, so have not been out since then, but another couple of weeks should see me back in the saddle. Can't wait! Lot's of really positive things about the bike, but a couple of little niggles as well:- Corrosion on the engine cases. This was after a month, and a long time before the roads were gritted. Will be the subject of another post methinks. No centre stand. Very limited accessories - the original literature included a grab handle, but was never available is not shown now. But really just want to get back on it now!
Welcome in. Nice looking bike, never seen in white before , looks the dogs. Don't put diesel in it tho' !!!! Good luck with treatment, hope you can get out on the bike again soon, weathers just starting to improve, so even more fun to be had. But 1400 miles in January is impressive! Welsh or Irish BANGOR ????
Hello Gary and welcome to the forum. Hopefully your health problems will soon be a thing of the past and you'll be out enjoying your very nice looking steed
I try to stay away from diesel these days! Taffy Bangor; I've updated my details. Yep, weather is certainly improving; won't be long!
Better weather ......Forget that!! Wales !!! Rains more than Scotland !!!! ACF50 better than that water-based FS365, Stops and prevents corrosion
Hi Gary lovely looking bike, hopefully in a few weeks you will be feeling up to enjoying more of the great roads near you, weather should be better too
Welcome to the forum Gary. Nice choice of bike. Best wishes in your recovery and I think you have done exactly the right thing getting the bike of your dreams. Good on yer mate!
Great looking bike. I reckon half of the battle with illness is attitude, so buying the Thruxton and being so positive is a great start!
Welcome to the forum, put your troubles from your mind now and just let loose and enjoy them tremendous welsh roads and scenery,
Welcome in, lovely bike too! Sorry to hear about your issues, bike and health! Regarding the bike there's been some posts on here already with advice on getting things sorted.
Hi Gary, .....first post eh?.......it's all down hill now!.....welcome to the mad house!....... ........you've got the best Thruxton, in the best colour....... ......I wish you every good luck and all determination to beat your health challenges.... Cheers, dickydido .....what's that?.....what bike have I got?.......
Nice indeed! I'm thinking of getting the placcy side panels on mine painted white to match the tank. Sometime. What stand have you got for yours Dickydido?
Hi Garydiesel, No centre stand.... .....but at rhe rear I use an Oxford stand......local shop was having a sale and got a brand new one for a tenner!.....it came with both swinging arm brackets and bobbin hooks.....I kept the bobbins from my out going Triumph XC800 Tiger.....so I use the hooks. The leverage on the stand is not brilliant so I use an extra length of steel bar and it whizzes up no problem. For the front I bought a wheel chock thingy-ma-jib....fire the front wheel into that and the bike stands upright on its own so I can get the rear stand and steel extention bar doing its thing on my own no problem.....before the chock I had to nag Mrs dickydido out the house to steady the front end......it cost £45 but it is worth every single penny.....cannot praise it enough for the added security it gives me.......got it off Ebay.........I'm away in the camper at the moment, back home tomorrow so if you want the name of it I can send it tomorrow. Cheers, dickydido
Covering the plate to fool the speed cameras is not a good example to set for a newcomer mate, shame on you.
Welcome to the Trumpet sanatorium Gary. You've picked a cracking bike, enjoy the ride. All the best health wise.
Bit pricey, Mrs dickydido charging you £45 to steady the front end. Is that per hour or until you tell her she can let go ?
Hi Rich Bryce, .....saw it on EBay......'cloak of invisibility, only one careful owner, ring Hogworts School, ask for Harry to negotiate a wizard price'...........I think he saw me coming!!!....... Cheers, dickydido
Hi MickEng, .......blimey Mick, the way Mrs dickydido holds my front end.....she makes everything go stiff, vertical and able to stand up on its own.....at my age 45 quid seems excellent value for that kinda service!..... Cheers, dickydido
Hi Gary, all the best with the treatment - I know it can be exhausting. But the bike really gives you something to look forward to, that's for sure. It's gorgeous.
