Hostiles, my present time favourite, it didn't do well at the awards I think they underrated it by miles.
it's not a film but I recorded this a while back and finally got round to watching it over the holidays, I'm not sure if there is a 2nd series but it was really interesting and well put together

I grew up on the classic image of westerns on tv and film in the '60's and my father was very much a fan of '50's western movies so cowboys'n'indians is a tacer in my veins, too! I've been to America a number of times and even "lived the dream" in 1988/9 of wandering around the States on a motorcycle for 11 months with a number of 'adventures' and memories that simply solidified some of those early life mental images. Anyway, without getting too nostalgic, I'll add my favourites to the list. They are more of the 'modern day' interpretations - usually with a bit more of the 'gritty realism' than the more traditional variety. 1. UNFORGIVEN Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman. Nuff said. 2. DJANGO UNCHAINED A bit controversial, I know, but worth it for Christoph Waltz's performance alone! Not to mention the most TarantinOTT shootout scene ever :- 3. THE SALVATION Predictable plot line but great performances from a stellar cast.
The only one i havn't seen is The Salvation,the other 2 are great films,i wonder how many people recognized Samuel L Jackson in Django Unchained?
Ironically, one of the things I love most about watching westerns is the magnificent scenery, (and that was also a significant part of the reason for me wandering around the States on a motorcycle) and The Salvation was actually filmed in Sarth Effrikah. 'Go figure' as the Yanks would say!
