Exhaust question

You should be OK - I think the problem comes when they are stamped "Not for road use" - I suppose then they have no choice but to fail it.

 

Took the short TORs off mine for the MOT as they are stamped "NOT FOR ROAD USE" and it would fail so put OEM's back but from a noise perspective was told it is at the testers discretion. I did inform my insurance company who accepted the change to TORs as they are official Triumph parts and they recorded the part numbers against my policy. Wouldn't want to give the insurers an option of declining cover should an accident occur.

 

Strangely enough a friend of mine had the same problem with a noisey end can. Drilled three small holes opposite each other in sequence and made sure one was through the 'NOT' then put three large headed rivits through. It them just read 'FOR ROAD USE' and used them for years at various MOT stations. There is ways to make good progress!

 

If you have that stamped on the exhaust simply pit a bit of black electrical tape on it when you get to the station. Removing it would constitute damage or deformation and not allowed so it would then be down to the tester to assess the noise and issue an advisory only if required.

 

Some testers have no soul...

 

thats so annoying i'd be going to a differant mot station,my hog has straight through screaming eagles on and never had any bother.. and they are really loud!

 

I'm with Dougie on this one - use a different M.O.T. station if possible

 

Agree I'd be using a different MOT station.

For my classics I use a proper old school garage where they all ride bikes and I've never have any problems with my very, very noisy Yam RD400 with its expansion pipes on. I don't know if the rules are different for classics though.
They're probably glad to get rid of me especially when I start it up and smoke the place out

 

Hi mate,re the ECU re-set there's every chance that they follow instructions from triumph which say something like "connect Triumph super computer to motorcycle and press GO" - no explanations, no nothing. It'll probably just go through a "check and update" automatic process and the dumb fuckers at the bike shop neither know nor care.

So you'll have to re-map when you get her back home.

 

To be honest mate you're far better off doing it yourself.

I do all of our vehicles and have done for the last 15 yrs. I keep every receipt for everything Ibuy for them -filters,oil etc etc and a I have a Servicing spreadsheet for all of them showing what was done, when and at what mileage/kilomètrage.

When I come to sell a vehicle on the buyers are, without exception, always impressed with the details of the service history. Far better than just a 'John Bull' stamp in a book.
