I'm not sure anyone would want to drive that far but in theory we certainly could put the bikes in a van and do it that way and it would solve the problem neatly. It'll be another option to consider when it comes to weighing up time/cost. I'm also getting some freight logistics and costs this week hopefully

Thank you! :) I've been thinking about this trip long before I joined TTF and hadn't considered that there may be forum people en route. It would add a great new dimension to the trip. When we have a tentative route I'll post it on here.

I suppose I ought to do it on a Tiger. It's on the shortlist, anyway. I'll be looking for a decent condition, older bike. General reliability and service history more important than mileage. I'll also need storage space to carry the bits that drop off my mate's Bullet.

Don’t rely on the freight ships to take you, when I went to Nordkapp, we were booked on a freighter from Immingham to Brevik, there is a very limited number of berths and they will drop you in a heartbeat for better paying lorries.
We ended up doing Hull > Zeebrugge, docking in the morning, riding across Germany to Travemunde, in the day, then getting a ferry to Helsinki; riding up through Finland to Nordkapp.
Followed the coast to Molde, taking in the Lofoten Islands and then cut across to Oslo, where we caught an overnight ferry to Kiel.
If you're up that way have a ride to Kirkenes and then onward up the 886 following the border with Russia to the Arctic Ocean, I saw this as more of an achievement than Nordkapp (and much less commercial)

Have a look at the website ‘best biking roads’ and you’ll come across sights like this:-

Great photos of your tour! At what time of the year took it place?

I took cooking tackle and a tent, but needed neither, stopped in Hytte cabins the whole way round.

Why not ride up to the Nordkapp. I did it in 2019 from my house in the Netherlands. I rode back down a different route via Finland and Sweden. Was a great trip and successfully completed solo on my VStrom 650.
I’m still hoping to ride down to Greece and Turkey, possibly next year before old age really sets in.

If the bike gets too old and squeaky then just get a new one…

    Oh, you meant… I see, can’t help you there…

Those Hytte cabins look interesting. Did you use a booking service? Or how did you get the details? @SHarper

The quality of the Hytte cabins varied greatly, but were readily available every few miles.
We didn't book anything, that way you can ride for as far as you want in the day, if you set a target, the whole day becomes a chore, we rode until late afternoon and then started looking.

Cheers fella, so you just towed up to a hut and there was some details to make arrangements to stay there. Sounds useful for the mileage as you say… reasonable in price or swung with the quality?

Anyone got favoured maps for planning a roadtrip? I'll sort it out online eventually for the satnav but a good old-fashioned paper map will be better for poring over and deciding a route with my mate.
