I hear that speeds run hot and on the few days I have been out on my bike since buying a two months back I have accepted the fact that this is true. Waiting at the traffic lights you hear the fan kick in and again I some what accepted this. But what I can't accept is after kicking the bike up from cold with in a few mins the fan kicks in. Could it be a combination of true facts and the hot weather we are getting (levels OK)
Hi Chewy, when I picked my Speedy up in December I had the same concern, the engine would quickly get hot and the fan would kick in, even when there was frost on the ground. Triumph dealer explained that the motor runs hot as it is when it is at its most efficient, and it closes the coolant valve to the radiator until that temperature is met, which is why it warms up quickly - usually by the time I have got my helmet and gloves on it is at 4 or 5 bars. Once the engine is at temperature, there is actually quiet a small window if 'ideal' temperature until the fan kicks in. So unless the fan has been artificially configured to come on at a lower temperature, it should all be running as intended. Regarding hotter weather, when we were in the high 20s recently, I was filtering and the fan was on and off all the time, but when it is cooler it only comes on when stopped at the lights.
Yep mine runs warm and the fan kicks in mostly when town riding and filtering. Also warms up from cold really quickly. The fact the fan switches on and off means the cooing is working as it should. My (ahem) zx6 also ran hot around town but ran well.
I had the same concerns when I first brought my speed but it is normal for the fan to kick in , even when filtering in the winter
