    Any Electricians on here?

My question is, what would I be expected to pay to put a safe electrical connection in my shed? The shed is around 100 feet from the house and looking to at least plug pond and a few hand tools etc. Anyone able to quote what would be a fair price so I can at least sort the money out before asking for an electrician to price the job. Ball park figure.

    Thank you
    Andy

Andy to be honest you could go to any electrical factors and with there advice buy some armoured cable, you obviously know the length you need and have a good idea as to were you want the connection in your home to be made from, then if you feel more comfortable leave the final connection to a sparky but you could source the gear you need that would keep the price down.

You are looking at about £100 for materials plus labour, subject to what you specify at the shed end by way of sockets. You certainly need armoured cable (4mm 3 core about 35 metres (£65?) plus sockets for the shed and maybe a mini circuit breaker depending on fuse box modernity). If you are not sure what you are about then running and burying the cable is the time consuming and unskilled part. Get your sparky to quote for making the connections either end and he should be in and out in 30 mins. 13 amp Sockets and back boxes are cheap.
A certain amount depends on how new your domestic wiring is. You might want/need something like this http://www.screwfix.com/p/bg-13a-2g-rcd-switched-socket/91095
In the shed to deny you the opportunity of electrocuting yourself!

This all of course depends on location of shed, House distribution board in relation to each other and whether or not the cable needs to be run inside.

Also need to check on current regs for depth of trench and requirement for warning tape / tiles to be laid over the cable in the trench.

Or you could run the cable overhead suspended from the house to a pole at the shed but check on current regs with the spark who is going to do the connections & testing for you.

I have always gone with a small consumer unit in the shed in the past as it gives a second point of isolation should you want to upgrade the shed installation at a later date !

All good advice, I would definitely have the connection done by a qualified electrician though to ensure installation compliance for house insurance etc.
At the same time as you are getting your quote off the 'sparky' ask him about the regulations and the fact that you would prefer to do the 'labouring' side of the job yourself.
Better if you know someone qualified who will do it as more of a favour otherwise any tradesman would want to make money on the sockets, cables etc.

Have a nephew who is an electrician however he is unreliable and lazy so would rather pay full price than be messed around especially by a family member. The idea of doing the labouring is a very good idea which I didn't know that I could. Thank you all

Can't you give your nephew a good beating to 'persuade' him that being unreliable has its consequences ?

I use YESS electrical suppliers, they have nationwide branches with exceptionally knowledgable and helpful staff. Hard to beat on price.

Did you have to build a sub-station to power it ?
