How can one tyre be good in such different riding scenarios? I think they will probably be average at everything. Don’t see how a trail tyre would be any good out on the road or a road tyre out on a trail.
Jack of all trades, master of none. Marketing bullshit, as their idea of a trail may be a maintained trail like a push bike trail. Dirt track tires can and often are, soft compound slicks with sipes. I remember when the asymmetrical road legal soft compound Yokohama A001R and the A008R tires took the club racing circuits by storm, guys were switching from slicks, because you could feel the limits much better than slicks so track times improved. Down side was they didn't last as long as a race tire. Many different compromises.
Having read or looked at the reviews that rate them very highly. I also like the look between off road and track, so have gone and got some. I will let you know what they are like.
With quite a few years off road and trail riding under my belt, (and on my arse) I don't think I'll be trying them. There's trail riding and there's trail riding. On dry hardpack trails/green lanes, even a heavily road biased tyre will be pretty capable. Throw in some wet mud, peat or loose gravel and you need big knobs, no two ways about it. JMO
No one is saying they would ever replace a dedicated tyre, but for road use and for taking light off road or the very odd track day they do well.
