Is there any real difference between the original product and the cheap Poundland alternative?

Apart from price of course - Muc-off seems to be around £6.99 per litre on Amazon, as opposed to the bargain Poundland stuff - (that would be £1 before anyone asks). :D

Rumours were it was the same manufacturer but recently I heard that the cheap stuff is much stronger, but not in a good way it seems!

Well muc-off rhymes with F!*% off so I guess that's one main difference. Just saying.

Muc off (and no doubt some, not all, others) has a certain chemical added to it that gives it a better look when dry. Im not a chemist and cant remember the name. A bit like wanting the wet new gloss look but it dries matt as in reality it is knackered!

Never had a problem with muc off and always bought large quantities when on offer and shared costs out with mates. Think last lot was £44 posted for 20 litres.

Never buy 1 let bottled far too dear best to buy the 5ltr bog off offers, been using muccoff for ages as I had 2 dirt bikes cr250 yz250 and they got caked in mud,ph neutral is essential for any cleaner you use on regular basis and rinse off properly.
