    Hi all,
Had a great day at Donington Park Monday with no problems with the bike. However when I got home and was taking it off the trailer, it fell over on the right hand side. The only damage is a small scrape on the bellypan. Phew! Didn't think any more of it until I went to go out on it today. Starts up and idles fine but has a terrible rattle (I think the right side is worse) and the oil light is on. Any ideas what I've done? I'm hoping it's just an air lock in the lubrication system. I know it has a special proceedure for oil changing to avoid this. I'm also wondering if a chain or cog could have come off the oil pump or something like that. Anyone else experienced anything like this before? Any help much appreciated. Cheers.

It could well be an air lock in the lubrication system and the rattle is probably due to the hydraulic cam chain tensioner not being pressurised due to lack of oil pressure as the oil warning light is on. I would not run it with low oil pressure and the light on as it could damage the engine. The air lock needs to be sorted first and the light should go out within seconds of starting the engine.

Sorted :). Drained oil and removed filter, refilled with oil and refitted filter. Started up and oil warning went off after a couple of seconds and then rattle stopped. Good tip about the hydraulic camchain tensioner TripleX. I didn't know that.

I'm curious, what bike this is on and what special oil change procedure is required to prevent an air lock in the lubrication system? I've never come across this on wet sump engines.

It's a 2018 Speed Triple. You have to fill the oil before you fit the oil filter.

Strange but true. This is now Triumph's recommended method to prevent air locks. The oil level in the sump remains below the oil filter entry so oil will not piss out all over the floor. Still feels odd doing it this way though

I don't think Triumph have adopted the new method for an oil change across the range but there have been issues with late models of Speed Triple and this is their supposed fix for those bikes.
