Daytona smoothness??

Being new to biking I don't really have anything to compare my Daytona with. It isn't very smooth in low gears and I was wondering if this is normal or the sign of a possible problem.
I don't find that it is twitchy, more that in the lower rev range there is a delay from pulling back the throttle to the power kicking in. If a smash it, it's completely different and the power seems instant.
Any advice / thoughts welcome
Oh I was also looking for a Haynes owners manual but couldn't find one for the 600 only the 675? Any suggestions?
