Hi, This will be my first triumph (daytona 600/650) so want to get as much info as possible before I go to view the bike. Can you advise on what I should check and what questions I should ask when I go to view this bike? Once I get one and if I get along with it, i do not intend to sell it a fair few years so want to get the correct one. Thanks
Thanks for the reply. I had decided to go for the 650 instead of the 600 but cannot find one within a reasonable distance from me. No one seems to want to sell theirs either. They must be very good if no one wants to sell
They were only made for 1 year but are pretty vice less. Only draw back is the efi is hard to set up and not many main dealers now have experience with them as they rarely see them and techs tend to move around a bit. Maybe look for an early 675..
Been offered a 2005 daytona 650 with 27.5k on the clock with full service history. Never owned a triumph before and was looking for advise on whether the mileage matters that much?
Look closely at the receipt for the 24k service. Was it done by a main dealer or back street. You really need a triumph tick sheet. Some think an oil change and new plugs make a full service. There is far more on these that needs regular maintainable. No tick sheet use to bargain
Just been in touch. Only has s/h and last service was done at 23k, no paperwork to advise if valve clearance was checked. Cannot contact this particular Triumph dealer to confirm as they have shutdown. Contacted Triumph directly but no centralised records over 4 years old. Would it matter that I am buying from an independant bike dealer? Advise please. Should I walk away? Thanks.
The cost of the 23k service would give an indication of whether or not the shims had been checked. If you know how much it was and it was north of £350(ish) then they may well have been done. Others may be able to give you a better idea of the real cost - I may be way off!
If done by a triumph dealer around £600. But certainly as Steve said gong to be above £350. If I had it done I would make sure I kept it. (receipt) If they have no proof assume it has not been done and expect it needs doing with those costs taken into consideration. Some call an oil change a service. 24k service is far far more involved.
Have taken the plunge and purchased it. Will hunt down an ex Triumph mechanic to give it a once over for my own peace of mind. One question though. Will the majority of body parts from a 600 fit a 650, namely looking for a single seat cowl.
Body parts. Yes. Don't know where you are but Clive Wood is the man to see. He's near Boston but worth the trip. The efi on these are hard to set up right as they have 2 butterflies in each throttle body. Many main dealers would struggle now.
