Hi guys I'm new to triumphs and hence new to this forum and I had a couple of questions, My new Daytona 600 2004 has done 12k miles FSH (triumph) really well looked after etc etc. However on idle it tends to ‘hunt’ a little bit up and down the revs a bit. After a 30 seconds of being in traffic it does tend to drop the revs to about 500 and sits there perfectly? The other thing is sometimes gives a little surge when pulling away rather than being smooth all the way through the revs when pulling away. It has an MTC exhaust end can fitted and it didn’t seem to have these problems as much until the db killers were removed (or maybe as it was new I just didn’t notice as much) The rectifier was replaced just before I got it so I doubt it’s that. Is this just normal triumph stuff or does it need a re-map because of the exhaust or could it be a bigger issue altogether? Thanks everybody sorry for all the questions, I hope to get a few more posts on here soon and hopefully it won’t all be whinging and problems! Lol Jonny
Hi welcome to the forum and congrats on the new bike. I would doubt there would be any serious mechanical issues with the engine with only 12K and full Triumph history, I think it could be more to do the exhaust but we will see if our resident expert on all thing techy Screwball has an opinion. A re-map would be my guess
wasn't there some reports of the 600 not being spot on with fuelling out of the factory..? Maybe have a chat with a triumph dealer..?
I would look to get a Lamba / O2 bypass. It will smooth out the running. Pretty sure it can be switched off via the ECU as well. Mapping will help as removing the baffle has altered the back pressure and fuelling. allowing more air to flow out will require the fueling to be altered slightly. There is a map for a Daytona 600 with aftermarket exhaust. Not sure if it will suit but the only way to find out is try. It is of course best to get a personal map for your bike, exhaust & air filter. A good explanation of the lamba/ O2 sensor bypass is here O2 sensor elimination and bypass - Triumph Forum: Triumph Rat Motorcycle Forums Tune ECU will help but not many tuners / Rolling roads will use it. The majority of tuners will be set up for Dynojet which basically walks them through the tune.. It is good, will do exactly what it says on the tin but will cost you circa £400-500....(Dynojet and then tune) I'm using a Triumph specialist to tune mine and it's £200 all in..tuning the factory ECU...
Thanks everybody, Im being really picky really its hardly an issue at all but more of a niggle! I have downloaded tuneecu so will give it a go this weekend if I get chance, I might have a couple of questions for you while I get me head around things!! Screwball - thanks for the info on the O2 sensor worth a read before I start playing with the ecu! Thanks again guys
Thanks Screwball I already have one, been into old VW's and Audis for years so I have a few 16pin obd2 cables I'm sure they have the chipset in them if not I will get one ordered.
SAI is Secondary Air Injection.... Pretty sure your bike won't have one as its mainly American/ Aussie bikes, I beleive. Anyway you shoul babble to plug it in switch it one and see if the SAI is working or even installed.. I would go for without SAI possibly map...20035.map. You should be able to see what map you have and can then get a corresponding map..
Right basically just for 'completeness' of a post I thought I would let you know how i got on! I loaded the 20035 map without sai but the software kept changing the map number to 20034? with sai. I wasn't sure if this was normal but went ahead anyway. Map loaded fine and reset the tps etc. I also went to test mode and tested the sai and could hear the bike going through the sai test so I assume that I have it and the with sai map was correct after all. Took the bike out for a good spin it cut out while slowing at a couple of lights but nothing too major really but the idle problems and surging are all sorted! Donation made to tuneeccu what a cool bit of kit for free!! Thanks for all the help, hopefully next time I will be the one helping someone else!! Jonny
Jonny, you can alter the fueling very slightly to compensate for the cutting out.. Or you can get a personal map for your bike created... Should be getting mine done at T3 racing soon and will let you know how it goes.... Where you from as T3 are own South East off M20.
I might do a bit more research and have a play about with it myself then, it was the first nice day since having the bike so I didn't really get to explore the software as I would have liked. I'm up in wrexham north Wales so it's a fair way to go to get the bike mapped!
