Im fitting a new Yss kit to my 17 plate SS, and for the life of me couldnt get the damper tubes out. In the haynes manual it mentions the tool T3880633 for holding the damper whilst undoing it. In the meantime, i used the tried and tested, make a brush pole into a pencil, and after a bit of heat, it started to undo. Tool now in my possesion, im looking at it and wondering how its used. It has a 1/2" drive at one end, and a caslte head at the other, but my tubes do not have that shape. Now im wondering if haynes got it wrong. Is the tool just for removal? or can it be used to tighten as well?

I had the same issue when fitting a YSS fork kit into my 900ST.
I ended up with the wife operating the buzz gun whilst I forced the leg by hand onto a sharpened broom handle in the vice.

To refit, I just buzzed the base bolt a few rattles and didn't try to lock the internals.

All worked out ok and I even had the pleasure, within 2 weeks, to restrip one leg after the youngest dropped the bike and badly marked the powdercoating. : unamused:

Im not going to use the tool, as haynes has got it wrong for the scrambler. It does not fit, too wide to even go into the leg. So ive got a new useless tool in my drawer: unamused:
