I recently discovered the Triumph Forum, and I was encouraged to share my T160 story. I purchased this ’75 Triumph Trident as a basket case a few years ago and finally put the finishing touches on it. This was the unobtainable superbike to me in high school. I could have built two motorcycles from all the parts it came with. After hours of cleaning, sorting, replacing rotten rubber parts and polishing aluminum, I got the bike running this past summer. I de-chromed several parts and had them painted their original color and had the tank properly done with period-correct paint. I've met many fans of the Trident and have been impressed by their loyalty to the brand and enthusiasm when it comes to helping others rebuild/restore/enjoy them. In August my wife and I went to the Classic Races at the Isle of Man. I've never seen so many vintage Tridents in all my life. Some have been modified and improved to a state I never would have thought possible. But, there they were in abundance being driven all over the place. It is a lot of fun to ride, and with peashooter mufflers, it has a very unique sound. It is nowhere near as smooth and tight as my Street Cup. But, I’m amazed at all the comments and thumbs-up I receive when on the Trident. Attached are a few pictures. I’m pretty sure you can tell which one is the “Before” and which one is the “After”.
Steve Really is a pleasure to see such a machine out there being used and rebuilt to original. You are indeed a true gent. I just love it and doesn't it look a real motorbike. Keep us all in the picture when you finally get it out there more when this lockdown is over. I wish you and the t160 many happy days out there tearing up the tarmac. Job very well done. Regards Joe.
Thanks for sharing that, I love them old Tridents and the best colour too, my eldest brother had one until me Nan took a hammer to it [bitch] and told his future wife don't let him anywhere near a bike again. You have made a good job on the bike it looks beautiful I do like them with slippery sam's for silencers but I guess that yours still sounds good.
There is an uncanny similarity between your 'before restoration' paintwork and my Speed Triple paint (done by a previous owner)
Beautiful Sulivs! My dream bike as I was growing up too. Met a guy last year that had owned his since 1974ish and had done 330000 miles on it. His only criticism was it was too wide to through the door into his house!
Great job mate, I've got a poster of a T160v on my wall. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow and post it, Excellent bike.
