So I love my Street Twin, she is of course Jet Black, but so is every third one I see, not surprising as there are only a few colours. So thinking of a tank re-spary and wanted your thoughts on colours, I was thinking vintage white and gold painted logo, fancy something which stands out but not tacky, maybe an old Triumph colour or two, leaning towards a single colour though with knee pads and a logo I think two colours may make it too busy. Maybe even adding white to the black in Speedmaster style See what the rain does, makes me conjure up more ways to spend money on a bike I've only done 1000 miles on, damn you motorbikes why did I leave it 55 years. Pre-empting Dilligaf response: Black, Jet Black, Matt Black, Midnight Black, Phantom Black.....
Have you considered getting the tank wrapped? Limitless choice of colours I suspect and has the advantage of being able to return to the original colour if you ever sell the bike.
Umm, wrapping not thought of that, any experience how durable a wrap is to petrol spills, jacket zips and the like? This al started when I saw this
That's uncanny. I was just ruing my decision to go with Jet Black (I was looking at Matt Black for months and then changed my mind at the 11th hour). Consequently I was Googling various possible painters and thinking along similar lines to you (as in classic Bonnie colours).
Not personally but I watched a program recently featuring a bloke called Yianni (who seems to be the superstar DJ of custom wraps). Some guy had a Lamborghini Aventador, which had been wrapped previously and he wanted it removed before selling the car. Unfortunately some knob head had vandalised it by scrawling paint over the bonnet but it turned out that the original paint was unmarked - protected by the wrap.
http://www.bossdog.co.uk/vehicle-wraps/motorcycle-wraps/ Damn. The more I think about it, the more I like it.
Not sure to how I feel about wrapping, it’s like home cooked meal v McDonalds I’m going to change my own colour scheme at some point as I’ve a few dents and damage but not yet decided myself, although it’ll be possibly 60’s retro colours.
According to the wrappers web site wrapping is not permanent so no need to inform the authorities, allegedly
I've got myself interested now! Handy if you don't need to change the log book (I suppose technically the bike - in my case - would still be orange). Also protects the original paintwork from scratches and marks, plus you can always go back to the original colour if you wanted to. McDonald's is suddenly looking more appealing!
Repooh. Some of the peeps here will disown you insulting there black like this. Any colour as long as its Black. You may have to bribe them with Jack Daniels to persuade them its the right thing to do. Ride Safe Joe.
Very nice But I wouldn’t run my bike on it It makes my legs buckle so probably buckles a bike as well
Repooh. I think that might help a bit. When you get it done be sure to let us all see the make up. Ride Safe Joe.
What would the view be on changing the jet black side covers (or whatever they're called) for matt black? Given that the engine casings are matt, I'm sure this would look better.
I'm still leaning towards an old white with Gold logo, I do like candy Orange, as per the earlier photo, Down and Out did one a while back and it was fine. Maybe a pearlescent grey, Audi style. So no closer, when I do it which wont be till spring next year I'll post pics Don't know why but not keen on a wrap and will only do the tank, saw a ST yesterday with a two tone T100/120 tank on it.
