Here's another question..................... like I havent asked enough already!!!! The cold start choke pull on efi. Today, I stopped for a few mins and admitedly its a bit chilly of late, but when I went to restart the bike it cut out straight away... and did so a couple of times, until I pulled out the choke type thing...if thats what you call it on an efi ? Do these bikes cool really quickly or what ???
Yes they do!! Stopped outside dealer for 1/2 hour ish today, came out and bike wouldn't start. Tried a couple of times, but still wouldn't fire and run, choke out and fired and ran fine! Was quite cold today. I came to the conclusion that being air cooled and no reservoir of hot water to retain the heat, the bike cooled quickly and therefore necessitated the use of the choke to start, even when you would presume it was unnecessary.
Hello Wide, the first thing to understand about these EFI bikes and that knob is that pulling it out HAS NO EFFECT on fuel mixture at all - it merely raises the tick-over speed to aid starting at all times. If you look at your owners manual it says : "If the engine is cold, pull out the choke, noting the following: Above 25°C air temperature, pull out the choke to the first position. Below 25°C air temperature, pull out the choke fully. • If the engine is partly warm, pull out the choke to the first position. • Leaving the throttle completely closed, push the starter button until the engine starts."
Teach me to read the book next time ......................................never gonna happen !!!!!!! Am thankful that there's no fault on the bike, did feel a bit of an eejit not being able to start the bike outside the dealer yesterday, in front of a small group of other bikers 'Just pull it once, to get it going !' - will be my mantra today
Ha quality, so its nots just me and I usually live by my ex squaddie mantra of RTFM !! That'll learn me !!
Was out today with my pal on his America LT, first stop and he couldn't start the bike !!!!! Had a wee laugh then told him 'how to start a warm bike'. Works a bloody treat. Every day is a school day
Yep had the same problem, solved it the same way. It took about two months of swearing before i read the manual
