Does anyone have any positive experiences OR nightmares when it comes to saving a couple of quid on unbranded gaskets from eBay? Example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291905849388 With the bolt seals this represents a massive saving on say Fowler’s and WoT...what’s your thoughts/advice?
Would you say that perhaps it’s OK for the ‘lesser’ and easier to replace gaskets such as this cheap set... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291455479563 ...and maybe stick to the main suppliers for the critical and difficult to get at gaskets, like the cam and head for example?
Decision made then...branded gaskets for the head and cam cover. I wouldn’t want to head back in there again.
It’s the head gasket that would be my main concern The rest of them would probably be ok Depends on the savings against the risk
Copper head gaskets are a bit of a faf to make, i loved it when they developed silicone for gaskets you could have an oil tight Triumph.
I had one issue with a pattern gasket for my old trumpet, but it was an identification issue. You have to split the engine casing to change the drive sprocket iirc. My bike was a Legend but the gasket was for a Sprint of the same year. Slightly, but obviously, different when married up to the engine casing. I called the dealer up, who apologised and sent out the new gasket the same day. New one fitted like a dream, but I’d had a couple of days without oil in the engine. Never leaked and all was good otherwise
