    Hi all,

So a month into my 1050 and I'm suffering from the typical charging issues.

    It's an 07 tiger 1050 abs model.

So I took a ride out 40 minutes later the ABS light comes on followed by the electrics dropping out then quickly after the engine.

I've run a diode check on the RR and a spare I got with the bike and both are showing fine.

I've run a resistance test on the stator again fine - all consistent. I also ran a ground check that came back fine.

Tried and tested the system with two bsttbatte that have also been checked so it's not a battery issue either.

    Any ideas??

Could it still be the stator even though all tests are coming back fine? Or are there other possibilities?

    Cheers

    Craig

Enough damage to stop the stator working?

    Tests came back fine

There maybe a break in continuity under that burnt coating, that fully opens when the engine is hot, but closes up when cool / cold , so you don't get any charging happening when you are using the most power (12v electrically) if your machine is electronic ignition and fuel injected your battery won't run the bike for long..

That's a great photo to add to your post. It certainly makes me believe that you've identified the source of your problem. A thermal issue like the Capt. has suggested is probably a good starting point. It's a shame that Triumph's prices are so high on the rotor and stator. Maybe you can find an electric motor shop (alternator repairs) that could look at this to confirm the problem and possibly repair it. I also see some used and new stators on eBay that are available for reasonable prices.

Cheers Capt, I hadn't thought about the state of it changing as the engine warmed!

All of the tests I did were ''cold" engine off style checks.

I've got an after market stator on the way which comes recommend over the triumph part.
Triumph stator I was quoted £270
After market supposedly better one £98.
£10 for a new gasket, hopefully it all works out - I'll keep posting here until resolved.

Winner - as suggested the stator which was showing up fine on a cold tests was indeed shot.

Replaced the stator and RR while the bikes was in pieces. Fitted an aftermarker voltmeter to the dash too so I can monitor charging whilst riding.

Been commuting on it for two weeks now without a single issue.

Good to know even with all those checks that you can run...you should still trust your intuition over tools.

I don't believe you mentioned if you checked the voltage regulator. 9 x out of 10 the VR is the problem.

Checked - all was fine but it was the original so 10 years old so I swapped it out whilst the beast was in pieces as a precaution

YouTube has some great videos of how to check voltage, dioides and so on this one is the best for the RR.

What bike you having trouble with?

Tiger 1050 done all the tests on RR and the stator all came back fine does the RR have a thermal cut out when hot

    Not sure,

You problem sounds just like mine, I had none of the tests comeback negative...so I bit the bullet and opened the stator anyway and sure enough a burnt out element.

My conclusion was that as the stator warmed up it opened up a split in the stator.
