I had an issue with the chain. When you fix the new link and rivet it in to place it all seems so simple on the web. I put everything together, when I came to rivet the new link I could not get the rivet to spread and now I am in the situation where I dont know if its on or not. The link is the same thickness as the rest an when I torqued up the joiner I must have laid on up to 60Nm, come the end.None of this has stopped the chain moving, only I can see no measureable difference in the spread of the dammed rivet. Any thoughts or advice most welcome, cheers.
Im working now for next week so I might order a new link and then see if I can remove the old one if not then fine. Problem is, If it comes off then my riveter is crap.
Looks ok to me but hard to really tell in a picture (huge help) I will take a picture later of the one on my MT01 (which I fitted) and you can compare to see if that helps
From the last two pictures I would say that certainly looks well riveted, However if you are still not sure redo the riveting with a new link, better safe than sorry !
What make and type of riveter did you use a Sprinter ? Looking at the pics, I would have liked to seen some spread of the rivet and there doesn't appear to be any. You could very gently tap the rivet with a small punch with the link supported on the sprocket with and see if it moves.
This thing, says it does up to 530 it doesnt. I agree it doesnt seem to me to have spread much, if atall
I contacted the supplier of the breaker/river and he seems happy to refund my money for return. You can clearly see where it wasnt up to pressure. weaker than the rivet it was supposed to flatten. One of the girls at work is going to give me her riveter to get the job done.
That doesn't look like the pin in my riviter. It should have a conical face to spread the rivit, not the flat face pictured above.
I dont know what to say, I have it all packaged up and ready to send back, the seller sent a return label so he seems to be standing up. I watch youtube last night to check if I had done it right?? and I had. Rubber tools are annoying, I keep thinking it me messing, up then you get the right tool and job done! Anyone recommend a good chain breaker/riveter, for if I get my money refunded?
I would have thought there ought to have been a minimum/maximum head spread width for the pins to be set at included with the link kit.
Just looking for a spread of 0.1mm (according to Delboy), only I cant say I measured any spread, it seemed like there was no movement. If you look at Rockers, thats how I would have liked mine to look. The same width as the solid link next to it.
The only thing that has spread by the look of it is the monkey metal riveting tool. Reynolds riveting tools are a great piece of kit to have.
