Hi. I have an America that needs a chain change. I was given the genuine Triumph kit of chain + both sprockets. I have never changed one of these o ring chains that need riveting in place. I have an engineering background and do my own maintenance but wonder if there are any tips before I do this job.
Don't squeeze/clamp the rivets too much as you will then ruin the o-rings! Also, as you won't use it much, see if you can borrow a riveter from a mate?
Defo as @Ducatitotriumph said. Do not rivet link to tight. I’ve used mine 3 or 4 times, had it 10 years or so but a nice job to do yourself. With your background should be no problems.
When you are squeezing the outer plate on check the thickness of the link regularly compared to the same dimension on an undisturbed link. This YouTube vid is worth a watch.
