    Spot on!

How would one address him now? Is it Colonel Sir Tom or Sir Colonel Tom? :)

    Captain Sir Tom.....

The colonelcy is honorary so only applicable when he is with the Army Foundation College Harrogate, it is not a commissioned rank.

The knighthood? Call me a miserable curmudgeon but it smacks of politics as much as merit.

Good , at last a worthy recipient and not a celebrity or sports person , but I feel they all should have been issued with one when they returned from conflict and treated like the heroes they are or were

But surely still far more deserving than some of the old boys network who have them handed out every year.:)

I think I deserve a knighthood for donating to pubs and keeping breweries and whiskey distilleries going in times of economic depression and such...not to mention the sacrifices I've made such as walking out of work and family friends and women..
Surely that deserves some recognition :p:):):)

The medals on his chest should have been enough to warrant the knighthood :)
For him to then do what he did for the NHS in my eyes makes him a true legend and he thoroughly deserves all the recognition coming his way

The NHS is not a charity. It shouldn't need any more money, that's why we get taxed to pay for it. £30m will keep the NHS running for about 4 hours. Why should we pay taxes and then be expected to pay out again.

He's a lovely old chap, but a knighthood for walking around your garden. But shows what a load of ol' shite the honour system is. Pure PR stunt by the establishment to distract you from what a shite job they have been doing running the country and running the NHS down to sell it to the American pharma companies.

    Ouch, that's a bit salty Mr O.

It was the last Labour government that sold off the NHS under the disguise of the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) schemes, which also crippled the NHS with massive debts. The current governement has funded the NHS far more than the previous Labour government, and has also just written off the debts that Labour forced upon the NHS. So if anything the current government is the best thing that has happened for the NHS in decades, and the NHS will be stronger for it.

    :mad:FFS:mad:here we go again
    Getting all political
This thread is about a TRUE HERO being recognised for his outstanding efforts at a truly remarkable age once AGAIN doing his utmost for the country he served so well and undoubtedly loves
Regardless of your political loyalties or Feckin chips on your shoulder about/against the establishment you should out of respect keep them for another time and not put them in here
SIR TOM is at the moment one of Britain’s true heroes and it’s because of people like him that we enjoy the freedom that we do today :)
    I salute you SIR TOM:heart: 5070334E-D3AF-4AFA-928F-15F2F4DDCACA.jpeg

For his service to our country and the medals on his chest I too salute and recognise Captain Tom..I also think let him enjoy his fifteen minutes of fame...

I do believe he as been used as a political propaganda tool..
I also believe pretty much everyone that as seen action and served with distinction deserves our respect and appreciation without it being turned into a media circus...Almost everyone I know that as served in the military tends to avoid this kind of clap trap and cant stand the news media for the BS they come out with...

Does Capt Tom deserve a knighthood...in my opinion no but then the vast majority of people that get them don't..

Does he deserve a pat on the back...yes he does and I hope I can walk round the garden at 100 but this was just something that the media caught onto and propelled it into something else...:)

Listening to Capt. Tom's response this morning shows that he is a decent and humble man and at this time it is exactly what the country needs to provide an uplift similar to those shown as going above and beyond in wartime. I agree that I would rather see him being awarded rather that one or two so called entertainers that I could mention!

I totally agree but include the media - maybe the knighthood should go to Piers Morgan (another bloated ego with a ‘patchy’ record all of his own) who was the chief drum beater in racking up the receipts.
