I know some of you are petrol heads and some of you just have a keen interest in cars so I wondered if anyone can identify my Dads car from the photo below. I know he talked about owning a "baby" Austin and I think the picture might have been taken in 1938. He died in 1976.
Yep, I'd also go with the Austin 7 which was affectionately as the Baby Austin. You can just see the hinged windscreen strut in your pic. https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C526664
That was easy then wasn't it ? Austin 7. Great, well done chaps and thanks. I can write that on the back of the photo now.
Do you really know how many types of seven there was? Look at a tourer or boat tail or Ulster. Then there’s Ruby, chummy, even the early 1960s mini was officially an Austin 7!! Datsun copied it early days, bmw copied it and called it Dixi. Oh it’s got some reight histry!!
You always have to over complicate things don't you ? OK clever dick, what type was my Dad's car and how many miles had it done when that picture was taken ?
Ok @Tigcraft I have given you a head start in post #3 on the type of Austin 7. So over to you on the mileage
Yes it’s amazing that lots of manufacturers who you would never have guessed copied such simple basics from the UK. If you ever search the history of MZ for example the RT125 from many moons ago ended up as one of Harley Davidsons bikes, also the Russians took the copyright then made it their own and guess what the most famous copy of the MZ was the BSA Bantam!!
