If you live in Camden or visit the place (it's in London) then there's some bad news for you. The borough council has released its proposed new parking charges regarding motorcycles. 1. Removal of all motorcycle parking bays. 2. Removal of all free parking for bikes. 3. Resident street parking charges for bikes the same as a small car ie. £130/year. 4. Parking charges of up to £5.92 for 1 hours parking (same as cars). For some reason they want to drive motorcycles off the streets of Camden (and yes, I'm expecting the usual 'I hate southerners/London/Camden/wouldn't touch the place with yours..etc' comments ). If this bothers you (and it ought to, it might catch on if they get away with it) contact camden.gov.uk and point out the obvious: the charges are not proportionate; they clearly have little understanding of motorcycle emissions compared to cars; bikes take up far less space both on the road and when parked (1 parked car = 7 bikes approximately). What planet are these people from? Bunch of bleeding' idiots (all info take from the latest MAG publication, keeping us aware as usual..good thing someone is).
Er..I don't think SK's behind this. He 'runs' London but the borough councils have a level of autonomy and at the moment Camden is going it alone.
I agree this isn’t one of our Sadik’s grand plans this will be some local hipster knob A very worrying development though, I regularly commute to Blackfriars and the motorbike parking is free and plentiful and because the bike is reasonably new excluded from the ULEZ charge if this Camden plan catches on there’ll be a lot of pissed off commuters Need to keep an eye on this one....
I no longer commute/w*rk so at one level it does not have any impact for me. But I think it is outrageous behaviour by the council to target bikes, imo they should encouraging folk out of cars and onto two wheels
Camden has a history of stupid decisions but but his one is the most stupid. Councils and the government in general have failed to recognise the benefits of motorcycle travel easing congestion and pollution.
Camden is a great place and has been a melting pot of free thinking, often bonkers creativity that has brought the world a bit of colour and life. Sad to read the representatives now going after bikers, who's next Camden Council?
Well said that man! MAG is the only organisation that actively fights our causes on the political front. They are not party biased in any way, it makes no difference whether it's the Conservative, Labour or any other party running the government or local council, MAG will take them on and attempt to improve the lives of motorcyclists. But they can't do it without funds. They have been badly hit by the pandemic, which has meant that their main source of income, their rallies, have been cancelled. Therefore they need more people to join. It's only £27...so do it!! You know it makes sense.
This ordnance doesn’t seem on-brand for Camden. Didn’t Suggs sing that “you can do anything you want in Camden Town”? Or something like that.
