Buying - Help with what to look for?

From what I've found out is some people have small niggles like starter switch/system keeps blipping and is temperamental on efi models but possibly to do with engine management requesting choke. Most efi's quietly pop on overun with the clean air system.
Generally they are a good bike that rides/stops & handles very well and very easy to live with.

 

Oh and to add, from 2013 onwards they've introduced the CAN-BUS electrical system so it's very difficult to alter features involving changing lights/ clocks etc.

 

I thought Can-bus came in with the LCD screen speedo's? If so mine's a 2010 and has that.

Hi Ross and welcome, it depends how far you want to dig, when looking at your potential next bike.

For instance, the bonny has Air Injection like a lot of modern bikes, but it tends to make the throttle a bit lumpy and pops on over-run so many owners remove it. You tell if this has happened because the chrome tubes next to the spark plugs will have been removed.

Also check under the LHS side panel to see if the rubber snorkel is still in place. This is a trumpet looking affair that leads/reduces air going into the airbox. Knowledgeable owner interested in optimising performance get rid of this.

The rear brake caliper has a tendency to seize up due to it's location, if not cleaned regularly.

 

Big lad, Haynes manuals stop at 2012 model, after that there is nothing other than a factory/dealer one at £60. I think it's because of the change in electrics. Don't know why anyone would want can-bus on a bloody bike?? I noticed my heated grips (badly fitted by dealer from previous owner) is wired direct to battery and can be turned on without keys! Hi Eric, that's just rubbish how they installed the heated grips, very poor job. You'll be coming to a flat battery one of these days.

PS Just bought the official Triumph Workshop manual for my bike from the States - $60 plus shipping. The first one was accidentally sent to Brazil by the USA post office, awaiting delivery of another one just sent today. Hope that arrives soon I love workshop manuals - SAD ? Yes, but there you go.

Anyway I'm the same with manuals I buy them and then just rip the bikes apart and never look at them. Well they're only there to help put things back!! I say if you need to read one then you shouldn't be doing the job. (Bitch bitch heh heh).Oh and you'll be needing a thrase converter to English from over there. It's wrote slowly as they can't read fast!!

 

09 T100 SE here, fitted with lots goodies inc power commander and rolling road tune (air kit removed) If yer tallish yer will find SE a bit low compared to std T100 as mine has the smaller cast wheels. My first Bonnie was 1965 but they are still very customiseable (is that a word heh heh) Good luck doubt yer will be sorry. Hard seat, rear pegs a bit high for pillion, wife got leg and bum cramps on a 1,000 mile weekend tour. King and Queen seats available.

 

Is that a bit like a "Flux capacitor" ?
