As l've said before, l've lately become a bit of a fan of rural Leicestershire instead of my habitual forays into Derbyshire. Quieter, less Plod, and although unspectacular, these swooping B roads lined with tall hedgerows and mature oak and chestnut trees are, to me anyway, quintessentially English. Found myself at a breakfast stop at a disused windmill in Wymondham. Bacon buttie and coffee were a bit stiff at £6.60, but to be fair she didn't miss with the bacon. A lot of cyclists around to the point where l felt a bit of an interloper

Anyway, the lass told me about another, working, windmill down the road. Girding up my Quixotic loins and jumping back onto Rocinante, l eventually found it. Didn't get to talk to the guy who can be a bit of a misery guts apparently, so maybe dodged a bullet there o_O This was in Whissendine

The other thing l like round here is the number of buildings such as above and below built from this honey coloured sandstone. Reminds me of the Cotswolds.

Great morning's ride which l rounded off by riding the B664 to Market Harborough and then home up the B6047 to Melton. And saw three antique BSAs-what looked like a prewar sidecar outfit and a couple of old café racers on Gold Stars. And of course the sun shone all morning :)

it is nice around here! Rutland, Leicestershire, northants are some great roads and at most times, pretty quiet.
Back road from rockingham to stamford is great and well worth a bimble next time (turn right on the tight left hand corner at caldecott!).
    Lovely pics btw!

Wonderful photos and commentary, Smilinjack! I agree with Samz..."nice bike". ;) Thanks for sharing your rideout. And I smiled when I read that you had a Bacon buttie since I now know what that is! :yum:)

Might have to try that area myself some day as it’s not on my radar.

Nice write up and photo's Smilinjack but keep it to yourself. It's my back yard don't want plod all over it :) Theres some great roads to ride some challanging. I just ask one thing keep to the speed limits through the villages, allready had one road reduced to 50 mph from complaints of excess speed through villages.

It's a bit of a dilemma as always mate, I understand your viewpoint. I never speed through villages, not one for loony overtakes, so basically do the best I can in that regard, always. :)
