Do people really risk their lives to steal 3 gallons of fuel? I've never really understood a locking gas cap for a motorcycle.

Try to steal something of mine and find out the hard way.

It's the principle -today it's 3 gallons of gas, but the doormat just let us get away with that, so tomorrow it's the entire bike. The weakling did nothing about that, so we'll bust into his house and take his valuables . . . and his wife while we're at it . . .

So, yeah, get caught stealing anything of mine and chances are you're dead so you won't have a chance to do it again. That's the way it is and it is legal where I live.

Sorry. I'm the only smart ass I can speak for, but it was a legit question, I thought. I've never heard of anyone stealing fuel out of a bike. Of course, that doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Fuel is much cheaper here, I think, so maybe that is a factor.

Smilinjack makes a good point that I hadn't thought of, though.

There are some people on here who have bought a locking petrol cap without a bike attached. I pity them if that gets stolen.

I just think the locking caps look stylish over the standard screw in flat jobbies

Then after you have defended your honor, and your gas tank, you get to pay a lawyer for the next 3-5 years to get the matter resolved. Being stupid can really get expensive, even if you were within your rights. Buy the locking gas cap. It is a lot cheaper in the long run. ;) ...J.D.

How will a locking gas cap prevent stolen exhausts?
